Space-Selective Control of Functional Crystals by Femtosecond Laser: A Comparison between SrO-TiO2-SiO2 and Li2O-Nb2O5-SiO2 Glasses

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
We report on space-selective crystallization of congruent and polar Sr2TiSi2O8 crystals in a stoichiometric SrO-TiO2-SiO2 glass induced by (1030 nm, 300 fs) femtosecond laser irradiation.

Multimodal Perception and Machine Learning‐Empowered Human Machine Interfaces With Double‐Network Hydrogel Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work develops polyacrylamide‐alginate (PAM‐Alg) double‐network hydrogel fibers for multimodal perception and intelligent human‐machine interfaces. The covalent‐ionic network provides high strength, toughness, and stable conductivity. Easily woven into wearables and integrated with soft robots, the fibers enable object and temperature recognitions ...

Nonlinear optical properties of
BaAlBO_3F_2 crystal

open access: yesOptics Express, 2009
We investigated the nonlinear optical properties of new BaAlBO(3)F(2)(BABF) crystal. The high quality BABF is nonhygroscopic and possesses a moderate birefringence suitable for UV light generation. On the basis of its refractive index dispersion curves, it is inferred that BABF has great potential applications nonlinear optical material, notably for UV

Powering Nanocrystal‐Based Heat Engines With Light‐Emitting Metasurfaces That Influence Their Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurfaces and other structured photonic environments can dramatically modify the absorption and/or light emission of semiconductors. However, the consequences of these changes on the temperature of the system are not well understood. The authors address this problem for colloidal nanocrystals and leverage their findings to convert light into ...
