Relaxation theorems in nonlinear elasticity
Relaxation theorems which apply to one, two and three-dimensional nonlinear elasticity are proved. We take into account the fact an infinite amount of energy is required to compress a finite line, surface or volume into zero line, surface or volume ...

A codesign multiobjective optimization framework was developed to enhance the morphology and controller of a snake‐like robot driven by artificial muscles. It improved planar locomotion, agility, and power efficiency. The approach optimized link geometry and controller gains, revealing that shorter muscles near joints and longer linkages maximize ...

A Nonlinear Elasticity Model in Computer Vision
The purpose of this paper is to analyze a nonlinear elasticity model introduced by the authors for comparing two images, regarded as bounded open subsets of $\R^n$ together with associated vector-valued intensity maps. Optimal transformations between the images are sought as minimisers of an integral functional among orientation-preserving ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Price Elasticity of Demand for Term Life Insurance and Adverse Selection [PDF]
This paper provides an empirical estimate of price' and risk' elasticities of demand for term life insurance for those who purchase some insurance. It finds that the elasticity with respect to changes in premiums is generally higher than the elasticity ...

Soft Robotic Snake with Tunable Undulatory Gait for Efficient Underwater Locomotion
This study designs an underwater soft snake robot using 3D‐printed soft actuators, controlled by specific signals to generate sinusoidal undulation. Results show a positive correlation between speed and swing amplitude, with optimal performance at 2/3π phase offset, PLA tail, 1.2 voltage growth rate, and 6s undulation period achieving a maximum speed ...

Linearization of finite-strain poro-visco-elasticity with degenerate mobility
A quasistatic nonlinear model for finite-strain poro-visco-elasticity is considered in the Lagrangian frame using Kelvin--Voigt rheology. The model consists of a mechanical equation which is coupled to a diffusion equation with a degenerate mobility ...
