Nonlinear interactions in elastic resonators
Ultrasonics, 2006This work is dedicated to nonlinear interactions in elastic resonators. It is supposed that a resonator wall yields locally to the inner pressure. The elastic wall of the resonator induces strong dispersion and dissipation of acoustic energy. The dispersion can significantly influence studied nonlinear interactions which are ineffective because the ...

Nonlinear Theory of Elastic Surfaces
Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1966The present paper develops a nonlinear theory for the deformation of an elastic surface by assuming the existence of a strain energy function and postulating a principle of virtual work which governs its mechanical behavior. By considering the strain energy function to depend on the first- and second-order deformation gradients, the field equations and

Nonlinear elasticity in nanostructured materials
Reports on Progress in Physics, 2011We elaborate on a blended continuum/atomistic theoretical picture of the nonlinear elastic properties of nanostructured materials, looking at diverse aspects such as dispersions of inhomogeneities within a matrix, random or graded nanograined materials, two-dimensional atomic sheets.

Nonlinear elasticity of amorphous solids
Physical Review Letters, 1989Structural phase transitions in amorphous solids associated with vanishing bulk modulus K or shear modulus \ensuremath{\mu} are considered. We find that the transition (realized in gels) at K=0, though of second order, does not exhibit true scaling behavior of density fluctuations.

Nonlinear Elasticity of Granular Media
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1997The finite and incremental elasticity of a random packing of identical spheres is derived using energy methods. We consider different models for the contact forces between spheres, all of which are based upon or related to the fundamental Hertz theory; we consider only the special cases of perfect friction (no tangential slip) or no tangential friction.

Effective elastic constants in nonlinear elasticity
Journal of Applied Physics, 2005The Lagrangian elastic constants cIJ and cIJK which are given in data-books are not stress-strain relationships. The relationships between them and any experimental observables are far from straightforward to evaluate under conditions of finite deformation when elasticity is nonlinear.
