Geometric numerical integrators based on the Magnus expansion in bifurcation problems for non-linear elastic solids

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2014
We illustrate a procedure based on the Magnus expansion for studying mechanical problems which lead to non-autonomous systems of linear ODE’s. The effectiveness of the Magnus method is enlighten by the analysis of a bifurcation problem in the framework ...

Recent Advances in Tissue-Engineered Cardiac Scaffolds—The Progress and Gap in Mimicking Native Myocardium Mechanical Behaviors

open access: yesJournal of Functional Biomaterials, 2023
Heart failure is the leading cause of death in the US and worldwide. Despite modern therapy, challenges remain to rescue the damaged organ that contains cells with a very low proliferation rate after birth.

Piezoresistive Monitoring of Carbon Nanomaterial‐Reinforced Epoxy Composites Under Cyclic and Fatigue Loading: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon nanomaterial‐reinforced epoxy composites exhibit pronounced piezoresistive behavior, enabling intrinsic damage sensing under cyclic and fatigue loading. This review critically compares carbon nanotube and graphene systems, correlating filler content, percolation threshold, and gauge factor with sensing stability and damage evolution.

Large Deformation Elastic Analysis of Pressurized FGM Thick Cylindrical Shells with Nonlinear Plane Elasticity Theory (NPET) [PDF]

open access: yesMechanics of Advanced Composite Structures
In the present study, the governing equation of pressurized axisymmetric thick cylinders made of Functionally Graded materials (FGMs) with large deformations is derived using the Nonlinear Plane Elasticity Theory (NPET).

Transition mechanism for a periodic bar-and-joint framework with limited degrees of freedom controlled by uniaxial load and internal stiffness [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2018
A specific periodic bar-and-joint framework with limited degrees of freedom is shown to have a transition mechanism when subjected to an external force.

Electrical Conductivities of Conductors, Semiconductors, and Their Mixtures at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a comprehensive review of temperature‐dependent electrical conductivity data for multiple material classes at elevated temperatures, highlighting a persistent conductivity gap between metals and semiconductors in the range of 102$\left(10\right)^{2}$– 107$\left(10\right)^{7}$ S/m. Metal–ceramic irregular metamaterials are proposed

Connecting Euler and Lagrange systems as nonlocally related systems of dynamical nonlinear elasticity

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2011
Nonlocally related systems for the Euler and Lagrange systems of two-dimensional dynamical nonlinear elasticity are constructed. Using the continuity equation, i.e., conservation of mass of the Euler system to represent the density and Eulerian velocity ...

Sharp Bounds on the Minimum M-Eigenvalue of Elasticity M-Tensors

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
The M-eigenvalue of elasticity M-tensors play important roles in nonlinear elastic material analysis. In this paper, we establish an upper bound and two sharp lower bounds for the minimum M-eigenvalue of elasticity M-tensors without irreducible ...
