Nonlinear finite element analysis of arch dam — II. Nonlinear analysis

Advances in Engineering Software, 1997
Abstract In order to improve design criteria and reduce construction funds, it is necessary to perform nonlinear analysis of concrete arch dams. In this study, cracking models of concrete are investigated and introduced to nonlinear finite element analysis.

Non‐linear finite element analysis of springback

Communications in Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1999
Summary: The nonlinear finite element method is employed to investigate the springback behaviour of doubly curved, titanium, sheet metal parts that are formed with reconfigurable tooling. The results of laboratory experiments confirm the predicted phenomena and the accuracy of the finite element simulations.

Nonlinear finite element analysis of wrapping uniaxial elements

Computers & Structures, 1989
Abstract This paper presents a finite element technique to analyse the structures having uniaxial elements wrapping around general solid body edges. These edges may be fixed or allowed to deform during the course of loading. After presenting the contact criteria, the incremental tangent stiffness matrices of these elements are developed. Each element

Nonlinear viscoelastic stress analysis—a finite element approach

Computers & Structures, 1984
Abstract This paper describes a finite element algorithm developed for analysis of nonlinear viscoelastic materials. A single integral constitutive law proposed by Schapery is used to describe viscoelastic material behavior. Work leading to this paper focused on adhesives, but the FE formulation is general and readily extended to structural systems ...

On the Solution of the Finite Element Equations for Nonlinear Shell Analysis

SIAM Journal on Scientific and Statistical Computing, 1982
The relative efficiencies of the finite element methods derived from the potential energy formulation and from the mixed formulation for nonlinear shell analysis are compared. The result of this comparison is that the mixed method is considerably more efficient.

Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis Procedure

2014
Chapter 2 introduces nonlinear systems of solid mechanics. In Sect. 2.1, fundamental characteristics of nonlinear problems are explained in contrast to linear problems, followed by four types of nonlinearities in solid mechanics: material, geometry, boundary, and force nonlinearities. Section 2.2 presents different methods of solving a nonlinear system

The finite element numerical analysis for a class nonlinear evolution equations

Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2005
The author presents a Galerkin method for the generalized nerve conduction equation on polygonal planar domains. The basis consists of piecewise linear functions on triangles. The differential equation is first converted to a parabolic integro-differential equation, and the temporal discretization is by the backward Euler method. The author proves an \(
