The impact of seasonal changes in stratification on the dynamics of internal waves in the Sea of Okhotsk [PDF]

open access: yesEstonian Journal of Earth Sciences, 2017
The properties and dynamics of internal waves in the ocean crucially depend on the vertical structure of water masses. We present detailed analysis of the impact of spatial and seasonal variations in the density-driven stratification in the Sea of ...

The modified Korteweg - de Vries equation in the theory of large - amplitude internal waves [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 1997
The propagation of large- amplitude internal waves in the ocean is studied here for the case when the nonlinear effects are of cubic order, leading to the modified Korteweg - de Vries equation.

Experimental study of long nonlinear internal waves in rotating fluid [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 1994
Experiments were performed on the rotating platform 14 m in diameter equipped with a simple internal wave generator. Internal waves were generated for a wide range of Coriolis parameters.

Energetics of internal solitary waves in a background sheared current [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2010
The energetics of internal waves in the presence of a background sheared current is explored via numerical simulations for four different situations based on oceanographic conditions: the nonlinear interaction of two internal solitary waves; an internal ...

Estimations of the nonlinear properties of the internal wave field off the Israel coast [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 1995
The measurements of the vertical structure of hydrological fields and internal waves on the Levantine Sea's polygon in the Mediterranean, obtained in the 27-th cruise of the RV "Professor Kolesnikov" in 1991, have been used to estimate the ...

Analytical Approach for Solving the Internal Waves Problems Involving the Tidal Force

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2018
The mathematical model for describing internal waves of the ocean is derived from the assumption of ideal fluid; i.e., the fluid is incompressible and inviscid. These internal waves are generated through the interaction between the tidal currents and the

Sub-inertial modulation of nonlinear Kelvin waves in the coastal zone [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2013
Observational evidence is presented for interaction between nonlinear internal Kelvin waves at the ωt,i (where the ωt is the semidiurnal frequency and the ωi is the inertial frequency) and random oscillations of the background coastal ...

Nonlinear internal waves in the upper atmosphere [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical & Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics, 2005
This article considers the large-scale dynamics generated in the upper atmosphere by the destabilization of a linear internal gravity wave and its eventual restabilization through nonlinear processes into a coherent pattern. The assumption of a strongly dissipative medium is relevant to wave propagation in the thermosphere range above 100 km.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Spectral methods for internal waves: indistinguishable density profiles and double-humped solitary waves [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2011
Internal solitary waves are widely observed in both the oceans and large lakes. They can be described by a variety of mathematical theories, covering the full spectrum from first order asymptotic theory (i.e.
