Logarithmic Strain Model for Nonlinear Load Cell [PDF]
General load cells have typically constant sensitivity throughout the measurement range, which is acceptable for common force measurement systems. However, it is not adequate for high-performance control and high-stroke applications such as robotic systems.

NONLINEAR SIMULATION OF MASONRY VAULTS UNDER EARTHQUAKE LOADING [PDF]
Masonry vaults are present in a large number of historical structures and often used as flooring and roofing systems in monumental palaces and religious buildings, typically incorporating no backfill. Many of these structures are located in seismic regions and have been shown to be particularly vulnerable during recent earthquakes, with a need for ...

Scheduling nonlinear computational loads [PDF]
A scheduling model for a tree network is studied where the computation time for each node is nonlinear in the size of the assigned load. Optimal load allocation and speedup for simultaneous load distribution for a quadratic nonlinearity are obtained using simple equations.

Response of a Nonlinear String to Random Loading [PDF]
Abstract This paper considers the response of a nonlinear string to random excitation. It is shown that, owing to the additional stress induced by the stretching of the string, the mean squared deflection at every point is smaller than that for the equivalent linear string.

Bandwidth of a Nonlinear Harvester with Optimized Electrical Load [PDF]
Many researchers have investigated the possibility of amplifying ambient vibrations and converting the associated kinetic energy into usable electric energy. The vast majority of vibration harvesting devices use mechanical oscillators to boost the amplitude of vibration; however, this can result in a rather narrow band of excitation over which the ...

Nonlinear Analysis of Torsionally Loaded Pile Groups
An empirical approach is developed to analyze the nonlinear torsional behavior of free-standing pile groups with rigid pile caps. In this approach, the lateral and torsional responses of individual piles in a pile group are modeled by p-y and τ-θ curves; the interaction among lateral resistances of the individual piles is predicted through Mindlin's ...

Quantitative Homogenization in Nonlinear Elasticity for Small Loads [PDF]
We study quantitative periodic homogenization of integral functionals in the context of non-linear elasticity. Under suitable assumptions on the energy densities (in particular frame indifference; minimality, non-degeneracy and smoothness at the identity; $p\geq d$-growth from below; and regularity of the microstructure), we show that in a neighborhood

Constant Rate of Loading Nonlinear Consolidation
ABSTRACT A solution of the problem of one dimensional nonlinear consolidation under constant rate of loading is presented. The computed results of excess pore pressure in the sample are compared with those obtained by the linear theory. A new dimensionless parameter is shown to influence the magnitude of difference between linear and nonlinear ...

Gust Loading Factors with Nonlinear Pressure Terms [PDF]
The purpose of this paper is to develop an analytical expression for the gust loading factor of buildings in which the nonlinear pressure terms are taken into account. The main steps leading to such an expression are presented and numerical examples are given showing the influence of the nonlinear terms on the magnitude of the random response.

Beam Loading in the Nonlinear Regime of Plasma-Based Acceleration [PDF]
A theory that describes how to load negative charge into a nonlinear, three-dimensional plasma wakefield is presented. In this regime, a laser or an electron beam blows out the plasma electrons and creates a nearly spherical ion channel, which is modified by the presence of the beam load.
