Reduction of interchannel interference noise in a two-channel grating-based OCDMA system using a nonlinear optical loop mirror [PDF]
We show that a nonlinear optical switch can be used to suppress the interchannel noise generated under multiuser operation within a coherent, direct-sequence optical code-division multiple-access (OCDMA) system.

Miniature nonlinear optical-loop mirrors with semiconductor optical amplifiers [PDF]
We present our experimental results of miniature nonlinear optical-loop mirrors made of GaAs-AlGaAs quantum-well optical amplifiers. The ridge-loading waveguide loop has a 300-/spl mu/m radius with a 4 /spl mu/m ridge width. The loop is connected to a multimode interference (MMI) waveguide.

Characterization of nonlinear switching in a figure-of-eight fiber laser using frequency-resolved optical gating [PDF]
The measurement technique of frequency-resolved optical gating is applied to determine the nonlinear switching characteristics of a passively modelocked figure-of-eight erbium-doped fiber laser. By completely characterizing the intensity and phase of the

Dissipative solitons in pattern-forming nonlinear optical systems : cavity solitons and feedback solitons [PDF]
Many dissipative optical systems support patterns. Dissipative solitons are generally found where a pattern coexists with a stable unpatterned state. We consider such phenomena in driven optical cavities containing a nonlinear medium (cavity solitons ...

2.76–3.98 μm picosecond mid-infrared optical parametric generation in a muti-grating MgO: PPLN
The high repetition rate, widely tunable, picosecond mid-infrared laser plays an important role in various fields. In this paper, the single-pass optical parametric generator (OPG) pumped by Yb-fiber laser based on MgO: PPLN is proposed.

A high-speed optical star network using TDMA and all-optical demultiplexing techniques [PDF]
The authors demonstrate the use of time-division multiplexing (TDM) to realize a high capacity optical star network. The fundamental element of the demonstration network is a 10 ps, wavelength tunable, low jitter, pulse source. Electrical data is encoded

Multiwavelength Fiber Laser Using Erbium-Doped Twin-Core Fiber and Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror
A multiwavelength fiber laser based on erbium-doped twin-core fiber (ED-TCF) and nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) is proposed and demonstrated in this paper. The ED-TCF is employed as comb filter and gain medium simultaneously.

Tunable Optical Filters Using Compound Ring Resonators for DWDM [PDF]
The device is based on a loop mirror in a ring resonator. The loop mirror allows tuning by changing the coupling coefficient of a directional coupler. The loop mirror is implemented using a Sagnac configuration to have the same optical path between the ...
