Nonlinear refractive beam shaping by an organic nonlinear absorber
Applied Physics Letters, 2001The response of organic dyes to laser pulses is typically described solely by nonlinear absorption. Recently, spatial profiles of a nanosecond pulse exiting an organic nonlinear absorber have shown energy redistribution from a Gaussian input profile to a central spike and outer ring. It was suggested that the spike and ring resulted from both nonlinear

Nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption of As2S3 aqueous solution
Optical and Quantum Electronics, 2003We report for the first time to our knowledge on the preparation of colloidal solution of chalcogenide semiconductor As2S3 by laser ablation and the measurements of its nonlinear-optical characteristics using Z-scan method at the wavelength of Nd:YAG laser radiation (λ = 1064 nm, τ = 25 ns).

Nonlinear-optical energy regulation by nonlinear refraction and absorption in silicon
Optics Letters, 1984We demonstrate a new silicon picosecond nonlinear-optical energy regulator for 1-microm radiation. The device has a high transmission for low input energies and a low transmission for high input energies and clamps the output at a constant value. We attribute this optical Zener action to nonlinear refraction and absorption induced in the silicon by the

Nonlinear refraction in NiO thin films
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2020In this work, we report oxygen partial pressure dependent refractive optical nonlinearities in DC magnetron sputtered NiO thin films grown by varying the oxygen partial pressure (5%, 11% and 16%) during deposition. Structural, optical and morphological studies have been carried out using x-ray diffraction, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy and atomic ...

Nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption of various media
Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics, 2005A review of studies of the nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption of semiconductors, fullerenes, dyes, metals, crystals, and liquids (bulk samples, suspensions, solutions, embedded nanoparticles, and thin films) is presented. Some of these media are analysed as optical limiters of intense laser radiation.

Nonlinear refraction of gold island films
SPIE Proceedings, 2008Giant nonlinear refraction has been experimentally observed in gold island films. The complex third-order nonlinear susceptibility χ (3) (ω;ω,-ω,ω) reaches a value of -8×10 -5 esu (λ = 532 nm, ι = 10 ns) and (+5×10 -7 + i0.3×10 -7 ) esu (λ = 800 nm, ι = 85 fs).

Soluble saturable refractive-index nonlinearity model
Optics Communications, 1988Abstract TE modes of an optically linear planar waveguide on a thick nonlinear substrate are described for a model substrate refractive index or dielectric permittivity of the form ϵ= ϵ s + ϵ sat u(2+u) (1+u) 2 , where u= α|E| 2 2ϵ sat , which displays saturation at high guided-wave powers, yet for which ...

Nonlinear refractive index of fluoride crystals
Applied Physics Letters, 1977Nonlinear refractive-index coefficients of 11 fluoride crystals were measured at 1064 nm using time-resolved interferometry. A simple empirical expression is given for the index nonlinearity in terms of the d-line refractive index and Abbé number which agrees with measured values for both fluoride crystals and optical glasses and which can be used to ...
