Nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption of various media
Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics, 2005A review of studies of the nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption of semiconductors, fullerenes, dyes, metals, crystals, and liquids (bulk samples, suspensions, solutions, embedded nanoparticles, and thin films) is presented. Some of these media are analysed as optical limiters of intense laser radiation.

Nonlinear refractive beam shaping by an organic nonlinear absorber
Applied Physics Letters, 2001The response of organic dyes to laser pulses is typically described solely by nonlinear absorption. Recently, spatial profiles of a nanosecond pulse exiting an organic nonlinear absorber have shown energy redistribution from a Gaussian input profile to a central spike and outer ring. It was suggested that the spike and ring resulted from both nonlinear

Conical refraction in nonlinear optics
Optics Communications, 1969Abstract When a laser beam propagates along the optic axis of a nonlinear biaxial crystal, the generated harmonic radiation displays the nonlinear counterparts of internal and external conical refraction.

Nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption of As2S3 aqueous solution
Optical and Quantum Electronics, 2003We report for the first time to our knowledge on the preparation of colloidal solution of chalcogenide semiconductor As2S3 by laser ablation and the measurements of its nonlinear-optical characteristics using Z-scan method at the wavelength of Nd:YAG laser radiation (λ = 1064 nm, τ = 25 ns).

Nonlinear refraction–diffraction of waves in shallow water
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1985The parabolic approximation is developed to study the combined refraction/diffraction of weakly nonlinear shallow-water waves. Two methods of approach are used. In the first method Boussinesq equations are used to derive evolution equations for spectral-wave components in a slowly varying two-dimensional domain.

Refractive nonlinear response in thin nonlocal nonlinear media
Frontiers in Optics 2011/Laser Science XXVII, 2011We present a model to describe purely refractive local or nonlocal nonlinear response in thin media with any magnitude of photoinduced phase shift. The results are in agreement with self phase modulation and Z-scan experiments.

We developed a method to measure the nonlinear refractive-index coefficient of fibers using a nonlinear Sagnac interferometer. To enhance the measurement accuracy, we employed a phase-sensitive detection technique using a rotational sensitive property of the Sagnac interferometer. The measured values were reproducible to within 10 % accuracy.

Refraction Modulation Z-Scan for Measurement of Nonlinear Refractive Index
Ukrainian Journal of PhysicsWe present a novel single-beam refraction-modulation Z-scan technique that combines elements of the standard Z-scan and loss-modulation methods to enable sensitive measurement of third-order refractive nonlinearities in the closed-aperture configuration. Compared with the original Z-scan technique, the proposed method provides an almost background-free

In this paper, the Z-scan theory for nonlocal nonlinear media has been further developed when nonlinear absorption and nonlinear refraction appear simultaneously. To this end, the nonlinear photoinduced phase shift between the impinging and outgoing Gaussian beams from a nonlocal nonlinear sample has been generalized.
