Modeling of soil reaction for seismic microzoning of building sites
Protection against destructive earthquakes requires the reliable data on the behavior of soil during earthquakes. The methods of determination of resonance properties of the upper part of the geological environment section for the building site for the ...

Sustainability assessment requires methodologies that appropriately distinguish between additive and non‐additive material properties. A toxicity‐weighted scoring system is developed and applied that accounts for the disproportionate influence of highly toxic constituents through nonlinear weighting functions, providing more realistic estimates than ...

Forced response of shrouded blades with a coupled static/dynamic approach [PDF]
A coupled static-dynamic method is proposed and applied to bladed disks with shrouds, in order to calculate the nonlinear forced response in presence of friction damping in the frequency domain.

Evaluation of Seismic Response of a Site Class F Site Using Equivalent Linear and Nonlinear Computer Codes [PDF]
Evaluation of seismic site response and development of site-specific surface response spectra has evolved in recent years through the use of both equivalent linear (EQL) and nonlinear (NL) computer codes.

CT‐based finite element simulations combined with in situ X‐ray computed tomography are used to analyze insert pull‐out in nickel‐coated polymer foams. Despite variations in material parameters, deformation consistently concentrates within a narrow annular region around the insert.

A generalized frequency detuning method for multidegree-of-freedom oscillators with nonlinear stiffness [PDF]
In this paper, we derive a frequency detuning method for multi-degree-of-freedom oscillators with nonlinear stiffness. This approach includes a matrix of detuning parameters, which are used to model the amplitude dependent variation in resonant ...

Empirical approaches for non-linear site response: results for the ESG6-blind test
As a contribution to step 3 of the ESG6 blind prediction exercise, we present an application of two different, purely empirical approaches to estimate the strong ground motion at a soft site ("KUMA") from the observed ground motion at a reference rock ...

Morphology, Transport, and Dynamics of Protein Adsorption in Open‐Cell Metal Foam
Stainless steel (SS) open‐cell foams are shown to adsorb more protein per unit area than previously reported 316L SS and chromium oxide surfaces under static and flow conditions. An integrated approach combining 3D pore imaging, flow simulation, and protein adsorption experiments characterizes the foam’s performance.
