High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Nonlinear Time-History Analysis Of 3-Dimensional Semi-Rigid Steel Frames

open access: yes, 2012
This paper presents nonlinear elastic dynamic analysis of 3-D semi-rigid steel frames including geometric and connection nonlinearities. The geometric nonlinearity is considered by using stability functions and updating geometric stiffness matrix.

Influence of Soret and Dufour effects on unsteady 3D MHD slip flow of Carreau nanofluid over a slendering stretchable sheet with chemical reaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This paper presents a numerical exploration on the unsteady three-dimensional hydromagnetic flow of Carreau nanofluid over a slendering stretchable sheet in the presence of thermal radiation and chemical reaction.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Analogue modelling an array of the FitzHugh–Nagumo oscillators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The purpose of the paper is to show that analogue electronic modelling is an extremely fast technique compared to conventional digital computing, especially when solving large sets of coupled nonlinear differential equations. An array of thirty

Optimization of the Production of Rubber Compounds Using Mathematical Models

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Rubber compounds were mixed in a batch internal mixer, and symbolic regression was used to derive mathematical models linking recipe and process parameters to ram path, torque, and mixing quality (incorporation, dispersion, distribution). Subsequent optimization with evolutionary algorithms identified operating conditions that reduce specific energy ...

Enhancing Seismic Displacement Prediction for Reinforced Concrete Box Girder Bridges Through Nonlinear Time History Analysis

open access: yesBuildings
Inelastic displacement ratios are critical parameters in the seismic design of reinforced concrete (RC) box girder bridges. Existing approaches of displacement prediction, including the Displacement Coefficient Method and the Capacity Spectrum Method ...

Exponential synchronization for reaction-diffusion neural networks with mixed time-varying delays via periodically intermittent control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper deals with the exponential synchronization problem for reaction-diffusion neural networks with mixed time-varying delays and stochastic disturbance. By using stochastic analysis approaches and constructing a novel Lyapunov–Krasovskii

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.
