Excitation and stability of nonlinear waves by a pair of steady waves in incompressible boundary layers

open access: yesResults in Engineering
The research explores the generation and stability of nonlinear waves in incompressible boundary layers, spotlighting the effects of dual steady waves. Using the Benjamin-Ono equation, modified for the incorporation of steady waves, we provide insights ...

Nonlinear guided waves and symmetry breaking in left-handed waveguides

open access: yes, 2003
We analyze nonlinear guided waves in a planar waveguide made of a left-handed material surrounded by a Kerr-like nonlinear dielectric. We predict that such a waveguide can support fast and slow symmetric and antisymmetric nonlinear modes.

Nonlinear dynamics of coupled transverse-rotational waves in granular chains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The nonlinear dynamics of coupled waves in one-dimensional granular chains with and without a substrate is theoretically studied accounting for quadratic nonlinearity.

Wave Energy Dissipation of Spilling and Plunging Breaking Waves in Spectral Models

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
On the basis of field experiments and modeling, the dependence of the dissipation of the energy of waves breaking by plunging and spilling on the frequency of wave spectra was investigated. It was shown that the modeling of wave breaking should take into

Wave amplification in the framework of forced nonlinear Schrodinger equation: the rogue wave context

open access: yes, 2015
Irregular waves which experience the time-limited external forcing within the framework of the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation are studied numerically.

Rogue Waves of Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with Time-Dependent Linear Potential Function

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2016
The rogue waves of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with time-dependent linear potential function are investigated by using the similarity transformation in this paper.

Nonlinear guided waves and spatial solitons in a periodic layered medium

open access: yes, 2001
We overview the properties of nonlinear guided waves and (bright and dark) spatial optical solitons in a periodic medium created by a sequence of linear and nonlinear layers.

Super Rogue Waves: Observation of a Higher-Order Breather in Water Waves

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2012
Super rogue waves with an amplitude of up to 5 times the background value are observed in a water-wave tank for the first time. Nonlinear focusing of the local wave amplitude occurs according to the higher-order breather solution of the nonlinear wave ...

Spectral stability of nonlinear waves in KdV-type evolution equations

open access: yes, 2013
This paper concerns spectral stability of nonlinear waves in KdV-type evolution equations. The relevant eigenvalue problem is defined by the composition of an unbounded self-adjoint operator with a finite number of negative eigenvalues and an unbounded ...

Modeling of the propagation and evolution of nonlinear waves in a wave train

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2011
A theoretical approach is applied to predict the propagation and evolution of nonlinear water waves in a wave train. A semi-analytical solution was derived by applying an eigenfunction expansion method.
