Plasmonic Enhancement of Fluorescence and Protein Dynamics in Living Mammalian Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates plasmonic enhancement of the function of fluorescent voltage sensing proteins (genetically encoded voltage indicators, (GEVIs), QuasAr6) in live mammalian cells. Coupling to plasmonic nanoparticles does not just increase fluorescence, but influences the protein photocycle, creating a hybrid sensor with its response speed to ...

Super Rogue Waves: Observation of a Higher-Order Breather in Water Waves

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2012
Super rogue waves with an amplitude of up to 5 times the background value are observed in a water-wave tank for the first time. Nonlinear focusing of the local wave amplitude occurs according to the higher-order breather solution of the nonlinear wave ...

Modeling of the propagation and evolution of nonlinear waves in a wave train

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2011
A theoretical approach is applied to predict the propagation and evolution of nonlinear water waves in a wave train. A semi-analytical solution was derived by applying an eigenfunction expansion method.

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Discrete interband mutual focusing in nonlinear photonic lattices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We study nonlinear coupling of mutually incoherent beams associated with different Floquet-Bloch waves in a one-dimensional optically-induced photonic lattice. We demonstrate experimentally how such interactions lead to asymmetric mutual focusing and,

Directional Flow of Confined Polaritons in CrSBr

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
CrSBr, a layered magnetic semiconductor, naturally channels self‐hybridized excitonpolaritons into highly directional flow. Its intrinsic optical anisotropy, high refractive index, and strong lightmatter coupling enable long‐range guided modes along the a‐axis, with propagation lengths set by their excitonphoton admixture.

Time–space fractional (2+1) $(2+1)$ dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation for envelope gravity waves in baroclinic atmosphere and conservation laws as well as exact solutions

open access: yesAdvances in Difference Equations, 2018
In this article, nonlinear propagation of envelope gravity waves is studied in baroclinic atmosphere. The classical (2+1) $(2+1)$ dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation can be derived by using the multiple-scale, perturbation method.

Fundamental rogue waves and their superpositions in nonlinear integrable systems

open access: yes, 2020
We review the large variety of exact rogue wave solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) and its extensions. We consider fundamental rogue waves, as well as the hierarchy of higher-order rogue wave solutions that are nonlinear ...

Intelligent Acousto‐Electrical Metamaterials (IAM) for Sound Source Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Our proposed metamaterial concept enables sound source detection using a single material, in contrast to conventional arrays that require dozens or even hundreds of transducers. We show that the coupled acoustic–vibrational–electrical responses in piezoelectric metamaterials give rise to topology‐governed charge transport, producing distinct voltage ...

Steady hydroelastic cnoidal wave on a thin flexural plate floating on a shallow water surface

open access: yesApplied Ocean Research
This paper investigates steady nonlinear hydroelastic waves propagating along a thin elastic flexural plate floating on a shallow water surface. In a previous study, some of the present authors developed a numerical method for describing nonlinear ...
