Damping amyloid‐associated conformational fluctuations in a protein by an engineered diselenide bridge

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Polypeptide cross‐β assembly, characteristic of diverse proteotoxic diseases, defines a general thermodynamic ground state and limits the shelf lives of peptide‐ and protein therapeutics. A model is provided by insulin. Although the hormone contains a predominance of α‐helix, its fibrils exhibit cross‐β reorganization.

Data Driven Reconstruction of Upper Ocean Profiles for Improved State Estimation in the Philippine Sea

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Despite significant advances in observational systems such as the global Argo array of autonomous profiling floats, the spatiotemporal coverage of subsurface ocean observations remains limited compared to the dense data provided by satellite platforms. This study develops a data‐driven framework to reconstruct synthetic profiles of upper ocean

Error Growth Characterization Associated With Lateral Boundary Conditions in Idealized Moist Baroclinic Wave Simulations

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract This study investigates numerical error growth mechanisms associated with lateral boundary conditions (LBCs) and their sensitivity to update frequency within a “Big‐Brother” framework. Using an idealized moist WRF baroclinic wave simulation, a high‐resolution reference is compared against three nested configurations: traditional one‐way 6‐hr ...

Foreshock Ion Properties at Earth's Bow Shock: Dependence on Upstream Conditions and Shock Geometry

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Solar wind ion reflection at collisionless shocks regulates foreshock plasma dynamics, yet the quantitative dependence of foreshock ion properties on upstream and shock‐related parameters remains unclear, causing difficulties in predicting foreshock disturbances.

Data‐Driven Emulation of Numerically Simulated Baltic Sea Surface Currents With a Deep Convolutional U‐Net: Explainability and Potential Forecast Skill

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Ocean models can represent surface circulation at kilometer scales, but their computational cost limits broad experimentation. We present DeepCUN, a deep convolutional encoder–decoder (U‐Net) that emulates daily mean Baltic Sea surface current components on a 1‐nautical‐mile grid.
