Nonlocal Elasticity Response of Doubly-Curved Nanoshells [PDF]

open access: yesSymmetry, 2020
In this paper, we focus on the bending behavior of isotropic doubly-curved nanoshells based on a high-order shear deformation theory, whose shape functions are selected as an accurate combination of exponential and trigonometric functions instead of the classical polynomial functions.

Nonlinear Oscillations of CNT Nano-resonator Based on Nonlocal Elasticity: The Energy Balance Method

open access: yes, 2021
This paper deals with investigating the nonlinear oscillation of carbon nanotube manufactured nano-resonator. The governing equation of the nano-resonator is extracted in the context of the nonlocal elasticity.

Extreme Spatial Dispersion in Nonlocally Resonant Elastic Metamaterials

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2023
To date, the vast majority of architected materials have leveraged two physical principles to control wave behavior, namely Bragg interference and local resonances. Here, we describe a third path: structures that accommodate a finite number of delocalized zero-energy modes, leading to anomalous dispersion cones that nucleate from extreme spatial ...

A Ritz-based Finite Element Method for a Fractional-Order Boundary Value Problem of Nonlocal Elasticity [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv.org, 2020
We present the analytical formulation and the finite element solution of a fractional-order nonlocal continuum model of a Euler-Bernoulli beam. Employing consistent definitions for the fractional-order kinematic relations, the governing equations and the

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Tunable Sound Absorption via Evanescent‐Wave Coupling in Asymmetric Bilayer Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tunable sound absorption is realized through a bilayer metasurface system governed by evanescent‐wave coupling. This work demonstrates that such evanescent‐wave coupling provides a controllable scattering channel that destructively interferes with the specular reflection.

Study on Deformation Law of Crossing Layer Drilling Superimposed Floor Roadway

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Based on deformation law of crossing layer drilling superimposed floor roadway, low dip angle drilling is particularly susceptible to complications such as borehole blockage and collapse. ABSTRACT Floor extraction roadway crossing layer drilling is a pivotal strategy for gas control in areas prone to coal and gas outbursts.

Weak Solutions for a Class of Nonlocal Singular Problems Over the Nehari Manifold

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we consider a nonlocal model of dilatant non‐Newtonian fluid with a Dirichlet boundary condition. By using the Nehari manifold and fibering map methods, we obtain the existence of at least two weak solutions, with sign information.

Nonlocal elasticity near jamming

open access: yes, 2016
We demonstrate that the elasticity of jammed solids is nonlocal. By forcing frictionless soft sphere packings at varying wavelength, we directly access their transverse and longitudinal compliances without resorting to curve fitting. The observed wavelength dependence of the compliances is incompatible with classical (local) elasticity, and hence ...

Experimental Modal Analysis‐Driven Gaussian Process Regression Modeling of Rectangular Steel Beams With Various Hole Geometries

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding the dynamic behavior of structural components is crucial for optimizing performance and ensuring structural integrity. This study presents a new method that combines a systematic experimental investigation of four distinct hole geometries (circular, square, compact rectangular, and long rectangular) with varying hole counts, all ...
