A Thermodynamic Framework for Turing‐Type Instabilities in Porous Media: Part I Theory

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Pattern formation in geological materials is commonly described using analogies to Turing‐type reaction–diffusion systems, yet a unifying thermodynamic explanation remains elusive. Here we develop a multiscale, thermodynamically consistent framework for pattern‐forming instabilities in porous media undergoing coupled thermo–hydro–mechanical ...

Nonlocal Elasticity near Jamming in Frictionless Soft Spheres

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2017
We use simulations of frictionless soft sphere packings to identify novel constitutive relations for linear elasticity near the jamming transition. By forcing packings at varying wavelengths, we directly access their transverse and longitudinal compliances.

The Influence of Grain Crushing and Pore Collapse on the Formation of Faults

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract During an earthquake, slip occurs in a localized shear zone that features a heavily granulated fault core that can be characterized as a shear band. We study the formation of this fault core in a granular rock such as sandstone by developing a model of crushable granular media within the framework of Breakage Mechanics. This model accounts for

Synchrotron Radiation for Quantum Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 15, 19 February 2026.
Materials and interfaces underpin quantum technologies, with synchrotron and FEL methods key to understanding and optimizing them. Advances span superconducting and semiconducting qubits, 2D materials, and topological systems, where strain, defects, and interfaces govern performance.

An iterative nonlocal residual constitutive model for nonlocal elasticity

open access: yes, 2018
Recently, it was claimed that the two-phase local/nonlocal constitutive models give well-posed nonlocal field problems and eliminates the ill-posedness of the fully nonlocal constitutive models. In this study, it is demonstrated that, both, the fully nonlocal and the two-phase local/nonlocal constitutive models secrete ill-posed nonlocal boundary value
