Nonlocal elasticity theory of polymeric liquid crystals

Physical Review A, 1990
We construct a nonlocal theory of elasticity for a nematic polymer composed of rigid or semiflexible molecules. We then introduce a mean-field theory for the calculation of wave-vector-dependent elastic moduli. Because the length of the molecules can be comparable to observable elastic distortions, the wave-vector dependence of the Frank moduli, i.e ...

Theory of nonlocal asymmetric elastic solids

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1992
The continuum mechanics is based on the following theories: (i) geometric field theory describing the strains; (ii) laws of conservation of mass, linear momentum, angular momentum, energy; (iii) constitutive relations between strains or stresses; (iv) equation of state. Each of these theories may be linear or nonlinear, and global or local.

Nonlinear Vibrations of Embedded Nanoplates Under In-Plane Magnetic Field Based on Nonlocal Elasticity Theory

, 2020
Nonlinear vibrations of the orthotropic nanoplates subjected to an influence of in-plane magnetic field are considered. The model is based on the nonlocal elasticity theory.

On correct nonlocal generalized theories of elasticity

Physical Mesomechanics, 2016
The paper discusses nonlocal elasticity theories among which are models of media with defect fields, gradient elasticity theories, and hybrid nonlocal elasticity theories. Gradient theories are analyzed, and their correctness properties are examined.

Nonlocal elasticity theory for vibration of nanoplates

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2009
Classical plate theory (CLPT) and first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) of plates are reformulated using the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen. The equations of motion of the nonlocal theories are derived. Navier's approach has been used to solve the governing equations for simply supported boundary conditions.

Size effects of small-scale beams in bending addressed with a strain-difference based nonlocal elasticity theory

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2019
A strain-difference based nonlocal elasticity model devised by the authors elsewhere (Polizzotto et al., Int. J. Solids Struct. 25 (2006) 308–333) is applied to small-scale homogeneous beam models in bending under static loads in the purpose to describe ...

Theory of Nonlocal Elasticity

2013
Continuum theories describe a system in terms of few variables such as mass, temperature, voltage, and stress, which are highly suited for direct measurements of these variables. Their successes, expediency, and practicality, have been demonstrated and tested throughout the history of science through explaining and predicting diverse physical phenomena.

Vibration analysis of carbon nanotubes reinforced isotropic doubly-curved nanoshells using nonlocal elasticity theory based on a new higher order shear deformation theory

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2019
In this paper, three-dimensional vibrations of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) reinforced isotropic doubly-curved nanoshells using nonlocal elasticity theory based on a new higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) is investigated.

Nonlinear Wave Modulation in Nanorods Using Nonlocal Elasticity Theory

International Journal of Nonlinear Sciences and Numerical Simulation, 2018
Abstract In this study, nonlinear wave modulation in nanorods is examined on the basis of nonlocal elasticity theory. Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory is employed to derive nonlinear equations for the motion of nanorods. The analysis of the modulation of axial waves in nonlocal elastic media is performed, and the reductive ...
