Nonlocal Approximation of Nonisotropic Free-Discontinuity Problems
SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1999A large class of problems in fracture mechanics, image segmentation, liquid cristals theory can be formulated as ``free-discontinuity problems'' in which one looks for the minimum of integral functionals of the form: \[ \int_{\Omega}g(x,\nabla u) dx + \int_{S_u}\varphi(x,[u],\nu_u) d{\mathcal{H}}^{n-1}, \] where \(\Omega\) is an open and bounded set in

A nonlocal Sturm–Liouville eigenvalue problem
Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh: Section A Mathematics, 1994A nonlocal eigenvalue problem of the form u″ + a(x)u + Bu = λu with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions is considered, where B is a rank-one bounded linear operator and x belongs to some bounded interval on the real line. The behaviour of the eigenvalues is studied using methods of linear perturbation theory. In particular, some results are given

Nonlocal Kirchhoff Elliptic Problems
2012In Chap. 10, we obtain nontrivial solutions of a class of nonlocal quasilinear elliptic boundary value problems using the Yang index and critical groups, and we obtain sign-changing solutions of a class of nonlocal quasilinear elliptic boundary value problems using variational methods and invariant sets of descent flows.

On Nonlocal Problems for Pseudoparabolic Equations
Zeitschrift für Analysis und ihre Anwendungen, 1988Three nonlocal problems for pseudoparabolic equations are considered. The method of solving of these problems is based on constructing the Riemann function for some differential operator of third order. The problems lead to respective integral equations. Sufficient conditions for existence of the solution of the nonlocal problems are given.

Nonlocal Problems in Electromagnetism
1987In this paper we consider two problems in classical electromagnetism that model nonlocal effects. The first is the problem of a conducting body. The Biot-Savart law implies that an electric current causes a magnetic field at distant points in a body.
