Nature of the metal-nonmetal transition in metal-ammonia solutions. I. Solvated electrons at low metal concentrations

open access: yes, 2007
Using a theory of polarizable fluids, we extend a variational treatment of an excess electron to the many-electron case corresponding to finite metal concentrations in metal-ammonia solutions (MAS).

Mitigating Cathodic Challenges in Aqueous Zn–I2 Batteries via Dual‐Effect Function Strategy: Concurrent I3− Immobilization and Catalysis of I0/I− Redox Kinetics

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This work employs a dual‐effect function strategy of Se to make an original composite material of selenium (Se) and activated carbon (AC) (designated as Se–AC), as a functional iodine‐adsorbed cathode host. Not only Se catalyzes the I0/I− conversion reaction, but also Se nanoparticles can adjust the charge distribution of AC to adsorb more I3−. Aqueous‐

Activating and Stabilizing Lattice Oxygen in Spinel NiCo2O4 through F, Mn Dual Doping for Rechargeable Zinc–Air Batteries

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This study exploited the substitution doping of Mn and F in NiCo2O4 to activate and stabilize lattice oxygen, achieving a stable synergistic effect between AEM and LOM to enhance the intrinsic activity of the catalyst. The outstanding bifunctional properties enable its application as an anode catalyst in zinc–air batteries.

The Dimensional Revolution of Phosphorus: From Allotropicity to Battery System Applications

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Phosphorus‐based materials are promising high‐capacity anodes classified by dimension (0D–3D) to systematically explore their properties and composite strategies. When combined with materials such as carbon to form heterostructures, the electrical conductivity and stability are effectively enhanced.

Tailoring the Synthesis of Highly Tetragonal BaTiO3 Nanoparticles by Regulating Aging Time and Calcination Temperature Using Sol–Gel Route

open access: yesCrystals
High-quality BaTiO3 nanopowders were synthesized via a sol–gel method using butyl titanate and barium serving as precursors. This study systematically investigates the influence of calcination temperature (600–1000 °C) and gel aging time (2–10 h) on the ...

Influence of nonmetallic inclusions on microbreaks formation in wheel steel and railway wheels [PDF]

open access: yesTransport Problems, 2008
It is well known that formation of defects of many types during railway wheels service somehow or other is connected to nonmetallic inclusions in wheel steel. Microbreakes connected with nonmetallic inclusions have different origin.

Nonmetallic Low-Temperature Normal State of K0.70Fe1.46Se1.85Te0.15

open access: yes, 2014
The normal-state in-plane resistivity below the zero-field superconducting transition temperature $T_c$ and the upper critical field Hc2 were measured by suppressing superconductivity in pulsed magnetic fields for K0.70Fe1.46Se1.85Te0.15.
