Schatten-$p$ Quasi-Norm Regularized Matrix Optimization via Iterative Reweighted Singular Value Minimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper we study general Schatten-$p$ quasi-norm (SPQN) regularized matrix minimization problems. In particular, we first introduce a class of first-order stationary points for them, and show that the first-order stationary points introduced in [11]

Ultimate approximations in nonmonotonic knowledge representation systems

open access: yes, 2002
We study fixpoints of operators on lattices. To this end we introduce the notion of an approximation of an operator. We order approximations by means of a precision ordering. We show that each lattice operator O has a unique most precise or ultimate approximation. We demonstrate that fixpoints of this ultimate approximation provide useful insights into

Convergence of Rothe scheme for hemivariational inequalities of parabolic type

open access: yes, 2012
This article presents the convergence analysis of a sequence of piecewise constant and piecewise linear functions obtained by the Rothe method to the solution of the first order evolution partial differential inclusion $u'(t)+Au(t)+\iota^*\partial J ...

Accelerated gradient methods for total-variation-based CT image reconstruction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Total-variation (TV)-based Computed Tomography (CT) image reconstruction has shown experimentally to be capable of producing accurate reconstructions from sparse-view data.

Instability of nonsymmetric nonmonotone equilibria of the Vlasov-Maxwell system [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 2011
We consider the \documentclass[12pt]{minimal}\begin{document}$1\frac{1}{2}$\end{document}112-dimensional relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell system that describes the time-evolution of a plasma. We find a relatively simple criterion for spectral instability of a wide class of equilibria.
