Cerebral Amyloid Deposition With 18F‐Florbetapir PET Mediates Retinal Vascular Density and Cognitive Impairment in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 46, Issue 11, 01 August 2025.
We investigated the relationship between cerebral amyloid‐β (Aβ) deposition and retinal vascular density (VD) in Alzheimer's disease and their impact on cognitive impairment, using Aβ PET and fundus photography. We found that VD has the potential to serve as a biomarker for cognitive impairment, with Aβ deposition mediating this association.

Impact of type 1 diabetes on binocular vision: Evidence from a comparative analysis

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1549, Issue 1, Page 208-218, July 2025.
Individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D) without retinopathy exhibit significant impairments in binocular vision, including reduced near point of convergence, fusional vergence, vergence facility, and AC/A ratio. The prevalence of non‐strabismic binocular vision disorders is higher in T1D, emphasizing the need for comprehensive optometric evaluations ...

Myocardial Blood Flow and the Retinal Microvasculature Across the Spectrum From Normal to Failing Hearts

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Hypertension, Volume 27, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Deficiency of the myocardial microcirculation plays a role in the pathogenesis of heart failure (HF). We aimed to investigate the association of myocardial blood flow (MBF) and the retinal microvasculature with left ventricular (LV) function and its potential mediators.

Retinal Oxygen Kinetics and Hemodynamics in Choroidal Melanoma After Iodine‐125 Plaque Radiotherapy Using a Novel Structural‐Functional Imaging Analysis System

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 14, Issue 8, April 2025.
Our study used advanced multimodal imaging techniques to demonstrate significant damage to retinal oxygen metabolism, vascular structure, and retinal blood flow in CM patients after iodine‐125 plaque radiotherapy. These findings may provide new pathophysiological insights into hypoxia in solid tumors after radiotherapy.

Diabetic Retinopathy Detection Using DL‐Based Feature Extraction and a Hybrid Attention‐Based Stacking Ensemble

open access: yesAdvances in Public Health, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) poses a significant threat to vision if left undetected and untreated. This paper addresses this challenge by utilizing advanced deep learning (DL) algorithms with established image processing techniques to enhance accuracy and efficiency in detection.

A Simple Nonmydriatic Self-Retinal Imaging Procedure Using a Kowa Genesis-D Hand-Held Digital Fundus Camera [PDF]

open access: yesOphthalmic Research, 2009
Research on vascular adaptation to microgravity in the central nervous system requires a simple, noninvasive, direct imaging technique that can be performed with compact equipment. In this report we describe a practical, nonmydriatic, retinal self-imaging technique using a Kowa Genesis-D hand-held digital camera and a Black and Decker laser level. This

Exploring the Link Between Sleep Duration and Visual Impairment and Major Eye Diseases: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005–2008

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Objective This study is aimed at investigating the association between sleep duration and visual impairment, as well as its relationship with major eye diseases, using data from a large‐scale population‐based survey. Methods This cross‐sectional study investigated the prevalence of visual impairment and major eye conditions among 5231 individuals aged ...

Gender‐Specific Associations of Muscle Strength With Diabetic Retinopathy in Middle‐Aged and Older Chinese Adults: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Background Muscle weakness is associated with an increased risk of diabetes. However, its relationship with diabetic retinopathy (DR) in different genders remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate gender‐specific associations between grip strength, lower limb function (assessed by the 30‐s chair stand test, CST‐30), and the prevalence of DR ...

Study on the Correlation Between GDF‐15 Levels and a Diagnostic Model for Diabetic Retinopathy

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Research, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Background and Purpose: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a chronic complication that affects approximately one‐third of individuals with diabetes and represents a serious threat to vision. In recent years, increasing attention has been given to biomarkers and cytokines related to inflammation for their roles in disease mechanisms.
