Quantum chaos for nonstandard symmetry classes in the Feingold-Peres model of coupled tops [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We consider two coupled quantum tops with angular momentum vectors $\mathbf{L}$ and $\mathbf{M}$. The coupling Hamiltonian defines the Feinberg-Peres model which is a known paradigm of quantum chaos.

Nonstandard models and analytic equivalence relations [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1997
We improve a result of Hjorth concerning the nature of thin analytic equivalence relations. The key lemma uses a weakly compact cardinal to construct certain nonstandard models, which Hjorth obtained using # \# ’s.

Toward Low‐Consumable Anodes: Process Simulation and Prospective Life Cycle Assessment of NiFe2O4‐NiO‐Ni‐Cu vs. Prebaked Anodes for Aluminum Production with use of Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐consumable nickel ferrite‐based anodes for the Hall–Héroult process are compared with conventional prebaked carbon anodes using thermodynamic simulation and prospective life cycle assessment under contrasting future electricity system pathways from 2025 to 2050.

Crossover dynamics of climate change models: Numerical simulations

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2023
In this paper, two new climate change mathematical models are extended using the stochastic-deterministic piecewise hybrid fractional derivatives, where the hybrid fractional order operator is applied to extend the deterministic model and the fractional ...

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...

RaPID Selection of Backbone Macrocyclic Peptides Targeting Akt2

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Backbone macrocyclic peptide library (BMP) library was screened against Akt2 via RaPID to discover potent BMPPakti‐3 (IC50 = 34 nM). ABSTRACT Backbone‐cyclic peptides (BMPs) are an attractive class of molecules appeared in diverse natural bioactive products. However, mRNA display technology coupled with ribosomal synthesis is intrinsically inapplicable

Mothers’ Nonstandard Work Schedules, Economic Hardship, and Children’s Outcomes

open access: yesSocius
The authors investigate the moderating role of three dimensions of economic hardship on the relationship between maternal nonstandard work schedules (working evening, nights, or weekends) and children’s behavioral and cognitive outcomes at age five in ...

Nonlinear Elimination of Drugs in One-Compartment Pharmacokinetic Models: Nonstandard Finite Difference Approach for Various Routes of Administration

open access: yesMathematical and Computational Applications, 2018
The motivation for this study is to introduce and motivate the use of nonstandard finite difference (NSFD) schemes, capable of solving one-compartment pharmacokinetic models.

The subset argument and consistency of MLE in GLMM: Answer to an open problem and beyond [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We give answer to an open problem regarding consistency of the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) in generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs) involving crossed random effects.

Diagnostic Accuracy of Size‐Based Preoperative CT Assessment for Predicting Lymph Node Metastasis in Colon Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Preoperative CT based on lymph node size shows moderate accuracy for detecting nodal metastasis in colon cancer. In this meta‐analysis of 29 studies (5,634 patients), pooled sensitivity and specificity were 0.69 and 0.66. Size‐based CT alone has limited value for clinical decision‐making.
