The risk factors of nonunion after intramedullary nailing fixation of femur shaft fracture in middle age patients

open access: yesMedicine, 2019
Although the optimal treatment for femur shaft fracture is intramedullary nailing fixation, nonunion still occurs. We determined the oligotrophic nonunion rate among femur fractures managed operatively and identified risk factors for reoperation.

Skeletal pathologies in extant crocodilians as a window into the paleopathology of fossil archosaurs

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Crocodilians, together with birds, are the only extant relatives to many extinct archosaur groups, making them highly important for interpreting paleopathological conditions in a phylogenetic disease bracketing model. Despite this, comprehensive data on osteopathologies in crocodilians remain scarce.

Exchanging reamed nailing versus augmentative compression plating with autogenous bone grafting for aseptic femoral shaft nonunion: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica et Traumatologica Turcica, 2020
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of exchanging reamed nailing (ERN) and augmentative compression plating (ACP) with autogenous bone grafting (BG) for the treatment of aseptic femoral shaft nonunion secondary to the ...

Beighton Scoring System Use in Generalized Joint Hypermobility Studies Has Greater Scientific Rigor Than Joint‐Specific or Arthroscopy Joint Hypermobility Studies

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To compare the scientific rigor of Beighton Scoring System (BSS) use in generalized joint hypermobility (JH) studies (healthy subject injury risk/rate, physiological or kinesiological function determination) and joint‐specific or arthroscopy JH studies; to identify the most commonly used BSS score thresholds; and to describe ways to improve BSS

Don’t mind the gap: reframing the Perren strain rule for fracture healing using insights from virtual mechanical testing

open access: yesBone & Joint Research
Aims: The “2 to 10% strain rule” for fracture healing has been widely interpreted to mean that interfragmentary strain greater than 10% predisposes a fracture to nonunion.

The effects of locally applied simvastatin on an experimental mouse femur nonunion model

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica et Traumatologica Turcica, 2020
Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the effects of locally applied simvastatin on femur nonunions in a mouse model. Methods: The study included 32 male Wistar albino mice randomly allocated to one of four groups: two control groups (control-

Minimally Invasive Arthroscopic Fixation of Scaphoid Nonunion in Adolescents Shows High Union Rates, Improved Function, and Low Morbidity

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To evaluate the clinical, radiographic, and functional outcomes of arthroscopic treatment of scaphoid nonunion in adolescents, using cancellous bone grafting combined with headless compression screw fixation. Methods This retrospective study included adolescent patients treated between 2015 and 2022 with arthroscopically assisted bone grafting ...
