Effect of konjac and gellan gum coatings on broth flavor adsorption, textural and sensory properties of rice noodles

open access: yesJournal of Food Innovation, Nutrition, and Environmental Sciences
The aim of this work was to investigate the impact of konjac gum and gellan gum as coating agents to enhance flavor adsorption by cooked fresh rice noodles. Uncoated noodles, Konjac gum coated noodles (KGN) and gellan gum coated noodles (GGN) were cooked

In‐House Manufacturing of 3D ECM Culture Chips via Vacuum Thermoforming for Enhanced Imaging Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Desktop vacuum thermoforming enables rapid, low‐cost fabrication of 96‐channel polystyrene culture chips with very thin imaging interfaces. The resulting platform supports cell lines, primary cells, and patient‐derived organoids, and enables high‐resolution confocal microscopy and single‐cell visualization, providing an accessible approach for advanced

Development of a Method for Manufacturing Noodles from Finger Millet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Available methods of preparing foods from finger millet at home are laborious, time consuming, and people are reluctant to prepare foods from finger millet even though finger millet is a nutritionally important food item.

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Molecular Appendix Adjusted Architectural Propagations of Red‐Light Controlled Macroscopic Photoactuating Performances

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic chloroazobenzenes, bearing different amino acids as end groups alanine, phenylalanine, and valine, exhibit excellent photoisomerizations. Varying structures of three amino acid groups participate in supramolecular formations and therefore photoinduced morphological transformations via adjusting intermolecular interactions. These interaction

WorMa: An Undulatory Robot With Center of Mass Regulation via Internal Fluid Redistribution for Amphibious Locomotion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
WorMa is an amphibious undulatory robot that uses Center of Mass redistribution as the sole terrain adaptation mechanism. This mechanism is based on internal fluid mass redistribution through a pump‐driven latex balloon system that creates three profiles: head‐biased, balanced, and tail‐biased.

Cyclic Mechanical Loading of Cardiomyocytes via Pressure‐Driven Non‐Planar Membrane Deformation in a Bioreactor System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this research article, Mansoor and coworkers present a novel device that applies controlled mechanical stimuli to cardiomyocytes using pressure‐driven membrane deformation. By exposing cells to physiologically and pathologically relevant loading conditions, the platform reproduces distinct structural, functional and molecular responses associated ...

Ferroelectric Devices for In‐Memory and In‐Sensor Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological systems, in‐memory and in‐sensor computing overcome von Neumann bottlenecks. Ferroelectric devices can mimic synaptic functions and sense stimuli like light or force, therefore are ideal for these paradigms. This review introduces the ferroelectric devices applied for in‐memory and in‐sensor computing, covering their structures ...
