Norm attaining operators and norming functionals

Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1982
The question of whether a countably additive measure with values in a Banach space attains the diameter of its range was unresolved. In this paper an example is given of a countably additive vector measure, taking values in a C ( K ) C(K) space, for which the diameter of the range is not attained.

Norm Contextualization

2013
Agents interact with each other regulating by a set of norms which is expressed at different levels of abstraction that capture different contexts and operationalizations. Current normative frameworks deal with norm operationalization, yet few consider the contextual aspects of norms.

Norms of Assertion and Normativity

2015
Since the central concern of this book is the furthering of our understanding of the norms of assertion, it will be helpful to say something about what is meant by something being a norm. This is important, since much of what will be said about arguments for and against various proposed norms will depend on what sense of norm is being used.

Normative programs and normative mechanism design

International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems, 2011
The environment is an essential component of multi-agent systems, which is often used to coordinate the behaviour of individual agents. Recently many programming languages have been proposed to facilitate the implementation of such environments. This extended abstract is motivated by the emerging programming languages that are designed to implement ...

Norms and Normative Orders

2020
International norms do not exist in isolation. They fit together in intricate patterns called “normative orders.” This chapter discusses two types of international normative order: permissive and restrictive. The former contains a broad conception of what is appropriate in foreign policy, maintaining that statecraft cannot be evaluated with the same ...

Norms as mental objects. From normative beliefs to normative goals

1995
The normative dimension is essential in social life. In this work, it is claimed that a crucial aspect of the normative mechanism is the normative request, which plays a fundamental role in the spreading of normative behaviours. A social norm is here defined to be such only if it is associated with a normative request (want) that it be observed ...

Norm internalisation revisited: Norm contestation and the life of norms at the extreme of the norm cascade

Global Constitutionalism, 2019
Abstract:Finnemore and Sikkink’s norms life cycle model (NLCM) is a powerful heuristic device that continues to be a mandatory point of reference for theoretical and empirical scholarship on norm change. Yet the internalisation stage as conceptualised in the NLCM is problematic.

Norm Defeasibility in an Institutional Normative Framework

2008
Normative environments have been proposed to regulate agent interaction in open multi-agent systems. However, most approaches rely on pre-imposed regulations that agents are subject to. Taking a different stance, we focus on a normative framework that assists agents in establishing by themselves their own commitment norms.

From Norm Adoption to Norm Internalization

2010
In this presentation, advances in modeling the mental dynamics of norms will be presented. In particular, the process from normadoption, possibly yielding new normative goals, to different forms of norm compliance will be focused upon, including norm internalization, which is at study in social-behavioral sciences and moral philosophy since long.
