Cyclin‐dependent kinase 13 is indispensable for normal mouse heart development

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 246, Issue 4, Page 616-630, April 2025.
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common defect in live births. The role of cyclin‐dependent kinase (CDK13) in cardiogenesis and CHD was studied using a transgenic mouse model (Cdk13tm1b) carrying deletion of exons 3 and 4, causing loss of function.

Psychotic behavior in normal pressure hydrocephalus

open access: yesIndian Journal of Psychiatry
Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) usually presents with progressive gait impairment, urinary incontinence, and cognitive deficits. Many studies have shown that NPH can mimic other disorders like Parkinson disease with tremors and rigidity.

Decrease of excessive daytime sleepiness after shunt treatment for normal pressure hydrocephalus

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 2, April 2025.
Summary Sleepiness and apathy are often reported in patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus. However, research on outcomes after shunt surgery has mainly focused on the classical triad symptoms, that is, gait, cognition, and bladder dysfunction. This study aimed to describe the effects of shunt treatment on excessive daytime sleepiness and whether ...

Overnight Dynamics of Ventricular Cerebrospinal Fluid Amyloid‐Beta, Lactate and Hypocretin in Patients With Hydrocephalus: A Pilot Study

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This pilot observational study evaluated whether frequent overnight sampling of ventricular cerebrospinal fluid could clarify how sleep, hypocretin and lactate relate to amyloid‐β42 dynamics in adults with hydrocephalus. Seven participants underwent hourly ventricular cerebrospinal fluid sampling from early evening to late morning during ...

Clinical and neurophysiological changes in patients with pineal region expansions [Kliničke i neurofiziološke značajke u bolesnika s ekspanzivnim tvorbama pinealne regije] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In the last 20 years neurological and neurosurgical follow up of our patients with pineal region expansions (118 patients) pointed to certain clinical and neurophysiological regularities.

Effect of artificial gravity on calcaneal bone marrow adipose tissue and mineral content in female and male participants in 60 days of bed rest

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Modulation of bone marrow adipose tissue (BMAT) with prolonged inactivity was reported in haemopoietic but not in non‐haemopoietic bones. This prospective randomized controlled trial submitted 16 men and 8 women to 60 days of 6° head‐down‐tilt bed rest.

An eye on long‐duration spaceflight: Controversies, countermeasures and challenges

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Space flight‐associated neuroocular syndrome (SANS) is a consequence of long‐duration space flight and is detected in two‐thirds of astronauts. In‐flight, this can cause a change in the refraction of the eyes, requiring graded hypermetropic ‘superfocus adjustable’ glasses, optic nerve head oedema and choroidal folds.

Development of the Brazilian Portuguese version of the “Grading scale for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus”: cross-cultural adaptation, reliability and validity

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria
Objective: The current study translated to Portuguese and validated the normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) scale originally developed in English as the Grading Scale for Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus.

Analysis of postural sway in patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus: effects of shunt implantation

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medical Research, 2009
Poor postural balance is one of the major risk factors for falling in normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). Postural instability in the clinic is commonly assessed based upon force platform posturography.
