Anti-malarial activity of geldanamycin derivatives in mice infected with Plasmodium yoelii

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2012
Background Geldanamycin (GA), a benzoquinone ansamycin antibiotic has been shown in vitro to possess anti-plasmodial activity. Pharmacological activity of this drug is attributed to its ability to inhibit PfHSP90.

The Influence of Oxidative Stress and Natural Antioxidants on Morphometric Parameters of Red Blood Cells, the Hemoglobin Oxygen Binding Capacity, and the Activity of Antioxidant Enzymes

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Using a wide range of different physical and chemical methods, it was found that the oxidative stress caused by addition of hydrogen peroxide to the incubation medium has a significant effect on the conformation of haematoporphyrin, influencing the oxygen‐binding properties of haemoglobin in red blood cells.

Helminth Parasites Alter Protection against Plasmodium Infection

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
More than one‐third of the world’s population is infected with one or more helminthic parasites. Helminth infections are prevalent throughout tropical and subtropical regions where malaria pathogens are transmitted. Malaria is the most widespread and deadliest parasitic disease.

Extracellular vesicles in parasitic diseases

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 3, Issue 1, January 2014., 2014
Parasitic diseases affect billions of people and are considered a major public health issue. Close to 400 species are estimated to parasitize humans, of which around 90 are responsible for great clinical burden and mortality rates. Unfortunately, they are largely neglected as they are mainly endemic to poor regions.

Plasticity in transmission strategies of the malaria parasite, Plasmodium chabaudi: environmental and genetic effects

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 6, Issue 2, Page 365-376, February 2013., 2013
Abstract Parasites may alter their behaviour to cope with changes in the within‐host environment. In particular, investment in transmission may alter in response to the availability of parasite resources or host immune responses. However, experimental and theoretical studies have drawn conflicting conclusions regarding parasites' optimal (adaptive ...

Pathological Changes in the Liver Parenchyma of Reptiles as a Factor Influencing the Processes of Hematopoiesis (on the Example of Lacertidae: Eremias arguta)

open access: yesZoodiversity
The influence of liver repair processes on haematopoiesis in scaly reptiles, in particular the steppe runner Eremias arguta (Pallas, 1773) is considered.

Safety and Immunogenicity of Recombinant Adeno‐Associated Virus‐Vectored African Swine Fever Virus Antigens

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Despite the significant global economic damage caused by African swine fever (ASF) and ongoing developments in the field of specific prevention tools development, safe and effective vaccines are still missing. A critical factor hindering the development of ASF vaccines is the lack of sufficient data on the pathogenesis of the virus, as well as a deep ...
