Normocytic normochromic anemia
Postgraduate Medicine, 1977The first steps in managing a patient with suspected anemia are to confirm the diagnosis and to determine the morphologic type. The normocytic normochromic type has many causes, two of the most common being chronic disease and drug therapy. The anemia of chronic disease is often mistaken for iron-deficiency anemia and treated with iron supplements.

ANKRD26 normocytic thrombocytopenia: a family report
Annales de biologie clinique, 2016We report the identification of a new case of familial non syndromic severe thrombocytopenia. Bleeding was mild and no extra-haematological symptoms were found. Platelet morphology was normal as well as the quantitative expression of platelet membrane glycoproteins.

A Clinical Approach to “Idiopathic” Normocytic‐Normochromic Anemia
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, 1996OBJECTIVES: Normocytic‐normochromic anemia is frequently found in patients with chronic disorders. The pathogenesis, epidemiological and clinical characteristics of normocytic normochromic anemia of unknown cause are not well established.

Idiopathic Transient Normocytic, Normochromic Anaemia of Childhood
Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, 1978Idiopathic transient normocytic, normochromic anaemia of childhood. The paediatric literature recognises an uncommon, self-limiting condition characterised by a severe normocytic, normochromic anaemia occurring in otherwise healthy children. Previous descriptions report erythroblastopenia as the characteristic bone marrow finding.

Anemia is a common problem that is often discovered on routine laboratory tests. Its prevalence increases with age, reaching 44 percent in men older than 85 years. Normocytic anemia is the most frequently encountered type of anemia. Anemia of chronic disease, the most common normocytic anemia, is found in 6 percent of adult patients hospitalized by ...

Normocytic anemia is anemia with a mean corpuscular volume of 80 to100 mcm3. Its causes include anemia of inflammation, hemolytic anemia, anemia of chronic kidney disease, acute blood loss anemia, and aplastic anemia. In most cases, correction of the anemia should focus on managing the underlying condition. Red blood cell transfusions should be limited

Investigation of nonpoikilocytic normochromic normocytic anemia
Postgraduate Medicine, 1979When the mean corpuscular volume is normal in an anemic patient, examination of a blood smear becomes of paramount importance. When the RBCs are normochronic, normocytic, and nonpoikilocytic, the reticulocyte count determines the line of investigation. When the count is increased, either hemorrhage or hemolysis is present.

Investigation of poikilocytic normochromic normocytic anemia
Postgraduate Medicine, 1979Spiculated poikilocytes occur in several different forms. Each form is associated with certain types of diseases or conditions. Identification of a dominant form in a blood smear provides a clue to diagnosis. Helmet cells, triangular cells, and schistocytes most commonly suggest disease in the microvasculature.
