A seasonally lagged signal of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) in the North Pacific

International Journal of Climatology, 2006
AbstractThe North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) has been identified as an important mode of variability in the climate system. However, little is known about its impact on the climate of the North Pacific region. In this paper, we discuss the existence of a seasonally lagged signal of the NAO in the North Pacific region.

Urban NO2 and NO pollution in relation to the North Atlantic Oscillation NAO

Atmospheric Environment, 2011
The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), a measure of the strength of the zonal wind across the North Atlantic Ocean, strongly influences weather conditions in NW Europe, e.g. temperature, precipitation and wind, especially during winter. It was hypothesised that elevated concentrations of nitrogen oxides in Gothenburg would be enhanced during negative ...

Winds, sea levels and North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) influences: An evaluation

Global and Planetary Change, 2013
Abstract This work presents the analysis of fifteen years (1993 to 2007 inclusive) MetOffice wind data for the Bristol Channel/Severn Estuary. Data from the Turbot Bank Buoy, located within the open waters of the Bristol Channel, showed significant reducing trends in monthly mean and maximum extreme wind speeds.

Ecological Impacts of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) in Mediterranean Ecosystems

2011
Large-scale climate indices have received much attention in recent years in ecology-climate research due to the advantages they have over typically used local weather variables, such as temperature or rainfall. In the Mediterranean, the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is a major forcing of climate patterns, especially precipitation.

North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and its relationship to rain in northern Libya

Journal of the Faculties of Arts, 2020
The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) plays a role an important in climate variability in the Northern Hemisphere, which effects on Europe, Northeast North America and North Africa climate, However, the previous studies have described the effect of the NAO on winter climate conditions in Europe, North Africa and a few regions.

Mapping Wet-Dry Signatures of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) in British Catchments

2020
<p>The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is one of the primary atmospheric circulations which influence weather patterns in Great Britain. Its two phases (either positive or negative depending on differences in sea level pressure) result in characteristic precipitation patterns, the effects of which cascade down to signatures in ...

Short-term beach rotation, wave climate and the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO)

Progress in Physical Geography: Earth and Environment, 2011
Beach profile surveys, offshore wave climate and variations in atmospheric conditions have been utilized to assess a short-term beach rotation phenomenon in a headland embayment Tenby, West Wales. Beach rotation, expressed by subaerial volumetric change, was shown by a negative phase relationship between beach extremities (r = —0 ...

Influence of Winter North Atlantic Oscillation Index (NAO) on Climate and Snow Accumulation in the Mediterranean Mountains

2011
This chapter shows the influence of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) on droughts in the entire Mediterranean region between 1901 and 2006. The analysis has been based on identification of positive and negative NAO winters and also detection of the anomalies of drought severity by means of the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index ...

Variability of the northeast Atlantic sea surface Δ14C and marine reservoir age and the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO)

Quaternary Science Reviews, 2010
Abstract We compiled new 14 C analyses of mollusc shells (bivalves and gastropods) of known age from the collection of the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle de Paris and previously published data to investigate changes in the sea surface Δ 14 C and reservoir age in the northeast Atlantic sector (NEA) between 1823 and 1952 AD.

Impacts of El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) on the Olive Yield in the Mediterranean Region, Turkey

2019 8th International Conference on Agro-Geoinformatics (Agro-Geoinformatics), 2019
Turkey ranks the 5th in the world in terms of total olive fields, and the 4th in terms of olive production. Although this ranking varies over the years because of the periodicity feature of the olive, Turkey is an important olive producer country in Mediterranean. The olive tree (Olea europaea L.) is a member of the maquis community that is involved in
