Yessotoxin in mussels of the northern Adriatic Sea
Toxicon, 1997This study investigated the composition of diarrhoetic shellfish toxins in the hepatopancreas of mussels from the northern Adriatic Sea. The major toxins were shown to be yessotoxin, identified by its chromatographic properties and spectral data, and okadaic acid, detected both by fluorometric high-performance liquid chromatography and by comparison of

Abstract This chapter considers Iron Age cultural developments around the head of the Adriatic, from north-west Italy to the western Balkans and Carpathian basin. The chronological focus is from the end of the Bronze Age to the mid-first millennium BC; after 400 BC, much of this zone first became part of the La Tène sphere and was then ...

Regional climate change in the Northern Adriatic
Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, Parts A/B/C, 2012Abstract An analysis of the climate change signal for seasonal temperature and precipitation over the Northern Adriatic region is presented here. We collected 43 regional climate simulations covering the target area, including experiments produced in the context of the PRUDENCE and ENSEMBLES projects, and additional experiments produced by the ...

The Dynamics of DOM in the Northern Adriatic Sea
Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, 2001The variability of dissolved (DOC) and colloidal (COC) organic matter and of organic biochemical components and their possible relationships with heterotrophic activity have been investigated in the northern Adriatic Sea during four surveys (June 1996, February 1997, June 1997 and February 1998).

The northern Adriatic Sea is the northernmost region of the Mediterranean Sea, extending as far North as 45°47′N and bounded by the Italian peninsula to the West and the Balkans to the East (Figure 5–1). It is a shallow sub-basin of the Adriatic whose southern open boundary is arbitrarily taken as the 100-m isobath, approximately located North of 43°20′

The Adriatic Sea is a remote branch of the Mediterranean which provides conditions for the development of a heterogeneous flora and vegetation. Due to adverse paleoclimatic effects, tropical, Indo-Pacific, Atlantic, cosmopolitan and endemic species occur side by side, the last being especially well represented in the Adriatic Sea (Feldmann 1958).

Dense-water generation episodes in the northern Adriatic
Il Nuovo Cimento C, 2004The generation of North Adriatic Dense Water (NAdDW) has been documented in the paper, by analysing three generation episodes occurred in winters of 1981, 1987 and 1989. Temperature, salinity and density collected at the Po Delta - Rovinj transect before, during and after NAdDW generation were analysed and discussed.

Chemical composition of macroaggregates in the northern Adriatic sea
Organic Geochemistry, 2004Abstract Macroaggregates in the northern Adriatic, presently considered as a product of agglomeration of macromolecular dissolved organic matter (DOM) into macrogels and particulate organic matter (POM), are primarily associated with phytoplankton, mostly diatom, blooms occurring in late spring during favorable environmental conditions.
