Mercury and methylmercury in the Gulf of Trieste (northern Adriatic Sea)
Science of The Total Environment, 2003The distribution, sources and fate of mercury (Hg) in the water column of the Gulf of Trieste (northern Adriatic Sea), affected by the Hg polluted river Soca/Isonzo for centuries draining the cinnabar-rich deposits of the Idrija mining district (NW Slovenia), were studied in terms of total and dissolved Hg, reactive Hg, total and dissolved ...

137Cs distribution in the northern Adriatic Sea
Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2016Anthropogenic radioactivity in the northern Adriatic Sea was assessed by analyzing 137Cs activity concentrations in seawater, sediment, and marine organisms in the period from 2006 to 2010. The investigated locations were the Po River delta, Lim Bay and the Rovinj coastal area.

Dynamics of picocyanobacteria in the Northern Adriatic Sea
Algological Studies/Archiv für Hydrobiologie, Supplement Volumes, 1996Environmental parameters and picocyanobacteria were monitored along a offshore/inshore transect of stations in Gulf of Trrieste (Northerm Adriatic Sea) during 93/94. The role of hydro-chemical variables on the population dynamics of picocyanobacteria was described using statistical methods based on fuzzy set ...

Wind and waves in the Northern Adriatic Sea
Il Nuovo Cimento C, 1996We outline here the logical flow of papers that attack the problem of estimating the wave conditions in front of and at the Venetian littoral. We start from the determination of the wind fields, followed by that of the wave fields. The wave data are then transferred to the coast.

The Adriatic Sea is a remote branch of the Mediterranean which provides conditions for the development of a heterogeneous flora and vegetation. Due to adverse paleoclimatic effects, tropical, Indo-Pacific, Atlantic, cosmopolitan and endemic species occur side by side, the last being especially well represented in the Adriatic Sea (Feldmann 1958).

Sea surface microplastics in Slovenian part of the Northern Adriatic
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2016Plastics are the most common material of marine litter and have become a global pollution concern. They are persistent in the environment where they gradually degrade into increasingly smaller particles-microplastics (MP). Our study presents results of sea-surface monitoring for MP in the Slovenian part of the Trieste Bay in the Northern Adriatic Sea ...

Increased eutrophication of the Northern Adriatic sea
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 1979Abstract The Northern Adriatic is one of the most productive regions of the Mediterranean, primarily due to the eutrophicating influence of Italian rivers, in particular the Po. In June 1977 unusually high phytoplankton standing crops (13 μg Chl a l.−1) occurred, together with extremely low dissolved oxygen concentrations in bottom waters (to 13 ...

Tidal dynamics in the northern Adriatic Sea
Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 2000Tides in the northern Adriatic Sea are investigated using two distinct numerical models. First, a two‐dimensional (2‐D) finite difference model is implemented with very high horizontal resolution (556 m) to simulate the northern Adriatic. After calibration of open boundary conditions the model gives very satisfactory results: The averaged vectorial ...

Appendicularians of the northern Adriatic Sea
2004Appendicularians were collected monthly from 1999-2002 at three northern Adriatic stations with different productivity regimes. High abundance, especially of juveniles, was found. Particularly large variations in Chl-a, picoplankton, and appendicularians may be responsible for the failure to identify statistically significant correlations among these ...

Enigmatic changes in the hydromedusan fauna of the northern Adriatic Sea
Nature, 1987Analyses of hydromedusan populations and relevant hydrographic parametra have shown that it may be supposed that larger bottom hypoxia will destroy many benthic and some pelagic species in the North Adriatic Sea.
