Sediments and pollution in the Northern Adriatic Sea: a statistical analysis

Continental Shelf Research, 1985
Abstract Data concerning grain-size distribution, mineralogy, geochemistry, and chlorinated hydrocarbon concentrations, obtained from 246 surface sediment samples collected in the Northern Adriatic sea (Italian area), provide the basis for a multivariate statistical analysis which evaluates the influence of riverine inputs, the differences among ...

Heavy metal distribution and speciation in the Northern Adriatic Sea

Chemistry and Ecology, 2002
In the present study the concentrations of cobalt, copper, iron, manganese, zinc were analysed and the speciation of copper and zinc performed, with a summer and winter sampling, for two areas in the Northern Adriatic Sea and crossing at the farthest zones of the Po river-sea water interface. Results show that when salinity increases the concentrations

Microhabitat selection by benthic Foraminifera in the northern Adriatic Sea

The Journal of Foraminiferal Research, 1992
Quantitative data on Rose Bengal stained benthic foraminifera reveal that the majority live in the topmost centimeter of the northern Adriatic Sea sediment. Most taxa live in the topmost seven centimeters of the sediment column ; taxa living exclusively on the sediment surfface, or exclusively within the sediment, were not found.

Giant Marine Amorphous Aggregations in the Northern Adriatic Sea

1991
Amorphous aggregates reach dimensions up to 20 cm in diameter. A large detrital components was found to be embedded in the organic matrix. These aggregates consist of N-rich substances. The flux of dissolved organic carbon between marine snow and the surrounding water was investigated in incubation experiments.

Trophic features of benthic communities in the northern Adriatic Sea

1998
A three-years study is being carried out in the Adriatic Sea in the framework of the project PRISMA 2. One of its purposes is to assess changes in the structures of benthic communities, linked to increase of anthropogenic impact which occurred in the last decades.

Repopulation of hydromedusans in the northern Adriatic Sea

2016
A dramatic drop of the hydromedusan biodiversity in the northern Adriatic Sea after 1960s was caused by increased eutrophication and frequent hypoxic/anoxic events in the near bottom layers. It has been suggested that composition and abundance of meroplanktonic hydromedusae might be indicators of such environmental conditions (Benović et al., 1987 ...

Drilling predation in the northern Adriatic Sea

2015
This study deals with predatory drill holes in the bivalve fauna at eight shelf locations in the northern Adriatic Sea. In summer 2013 at each of these sampling stations sediment cores with a length from 140 to 160 cm have been collected. The mollusc assemblages were examined for traces of drilling predation.

Sea warming and zooplankton in the northern Adriatic

2020
Zooplankton plays a major ecological role mediating the flow of nutrients and energy from phytoplankton to higher trophic levels, including economically important fish species. Mesozooplankton and gelatinous zooplankton are essential indicators of the impacts of climate change on coastal marine systems.

Incidental captures of sea turtles in the northern Adriatic Sea

2006
All the three sea turtles species occurring in the Mediterranean have been reported from the North Adriatic Sea. Chelonia mydas and Dermochelys coriacea occur occasionally while for the loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta, this area represents one of the most important neritic habitats of the Mediterranean.
