The Thimbleberry Gallmaker, \u3ci\u3eDiastrophus Kincaidii,\u3c/i\u3e (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae), in the Great Lakes Region [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Diastrophus kinccddii, a gall wasp previously known only from California and the Pacific Northwest, is reported from the Great Lakes Region. It is present on thimbleberry, Rubus parviflorus, in three counties in the Upper Peninsula of Michi- gan and in ...

Coupling spatiotemporal community assembly processes to changes in microbial metabolism

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2016
Community assembly processes generate shifts in species abundances that influence ecosystem cycling of carbon and nutrients, yet our understanding of assembly remains largely separate from ecosystem-level functioning.

A Bifunctional T3SS‐Effector Simultaneously Cleaves Host MAP Kinase and Inhibits PPM1A Phosphatase

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pathogenic bacteria exploit the metalloprotease effector NleD to subvert host defenses. Structural, biochemical, and infection analyses reveal a bifunctional mechanism by which NleD binds and inhibits the host phosphatase PPM1A while preserving its proteolytic activity against MAPKs.

Future North Atlantic tropical cyclone intensities in modified historical environments

open access: yesScientific Data
Tropical cyclones (TCs) have ranked as the deadliest and most financially crippling natural disasters in the United States. It is imperative to assess potential shifts in TC intensity within the paradigm of an evolving climate.

Hypernetwork science via high-order hypergraph walks

open access: yesEPJ Data Science, 2020
We propose high-order hypergraph walks as a framework to generalize graph-based network science techniques to hypergraphs. Edge incidence in hypergraphs is quantitative, yielding hypergraph walks with both length and width.

Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

An open database of computed bulk ternary transition metal dichalcogenides

open access: yesScientific Data, 2023
We present a dataset of structural relaxations of bulk ternary transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) computed via plane-wave density functional theory (DFT). We examined combinations of up to two chalcogenides with seven transition metals from groups 4–
