Sea ice transport and replenishment across and within the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, 2016–2022 [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere
The Canadian Arctic Archipelago (CAA) serves as both a source and a sink for sea ice from the Arctic Ocean, while also exporting sea ice into Baffin Bay.

Sea ice choke points reduce the length of the shipping season in the Northwest Passage

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Arctic sea ice has shifted from a perennial (older, thicker ice) to a seasonal (younger, thinner) ice regime, leading to the increasingly common belief that shipping through Canada’s Northwest Passage is becoming more viable.

Observing wave packets generated by solar terminator in TEC during typhoons

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics, 2018
In this work, we study ionospheric disturbances excited by the passage of the solar terminator (ST) during tropical cyclones, using total electron content (TEC) data.

Solution‐Processed Spin‐Polarized Light‐Emitting Diodes of Colloidal Quantum Wells and Magnetic Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
All‐solution‐processed spin‐LEDs based on colloidal Fe3O4 nanoparticles and CdSe/CdZnS core/shell CQWs that allows for polarization modulation of electroluminescence are fabricated. With these devices, electrical injection of spin‐polarized carriers from the Fe3O4 nanoparticle layer into the CdSe/CdZnS CQWs is demonstrated, realizing circularly ...

Vessel Operations in the Arctic, 2015–2017

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2019
The Arctic is among the most rapidly-changing regions on Earth. Diminishing levels of sea-ice has increased opportunities for maritime activities in historically inaccessible areas such as the Northern Sea Route and Northwest Passage.

Divergent Responses of Bacterial Communities to Permafrost Degradation and Their Associations With Carbon Across Vertical Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bacterial α‐diversity decreases, but stochasticity and community stability increase across the 15 m‐depth vertical profiles and along the degraded gradient within the active layer. The abundance and interaction of core taxa mainly control community stability in the active and permafrost layers, respectively.
