Characterization of Boeing 777 Nose Landing Gear to Better Withstand Rough Landing

International Journal of Engineering Research in Africa, 2023
An important role a landing gear plays is that it aids in the landing and takeoff of aircraft. The landing gear must be designed in such a way that it can take these stresses in static and dynamic situations. This is to accommodate both rough and smooth landings that result from various loads acting upon it, such as drag force, vertical load, and side ...

Vibration Analysis of Nose Landing Gear for A Propeller Aircraft

Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering
The main problem in the landing gear dynamics of the aircraft is either shimmy or brake induced vibration or ground induced longitudinal and lateral excitation due to runway unevenness. Neither of these vibrations is catastrophic, but still causes huge discomfort to pilots and passengers.

Two-parameter bifurcation analysis of an aircraft nose landing gear model

Nonlinear Dynamics, 2021
The Hopf–Hopf bifurcations of an aircraft nose landing gear model are investigated in this paper based on two pairs of continuation parameters. It is shown that due to the effect of higher-order terms, there exists a deviation between the bifurcation curve of the original system and the bifurcation curve of its truncated amplitude system, which results

Nose Landing Gear Door Re-design

48th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2007
Introduction The goal of this study was to re-design the F-22A Nose Landing Gear (NLG) Doors to reduce the cost. Cost was impacted by a) acquisition (fabrication methods) and b) installation and rigging time. There were additional requirements that also had to be satisfied: must be weight neutral +/1 pound, fit within the current NLG door opening ...

Failure analysis of nose landing gear assembly

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2003
Abstract This paper analyses the causes of the incident of an F-4 which landed abnormally due to a crack in the nose landing gear hydraulic actuator cylinder. Striations, typical of a fatigue crack, were observed on the fracture surface and a large quantity of corrosive oxide was detected in the initial stage of the crack.
