Hybrid CAA solutions for nose landing gear noise
Landing gear noise computations require the calculation of unsteady flow fields around complex geometries. Previous experience gained at Onera established the benefit of unstructured grids in CFD computations on both an academic tandem cylinder case and ...

Nose Landing Gear Door Re-design
48th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2007Introduction The goal of this study was to re-design the F-22A Nose Landing Gear (NLG) Doors to reduce the cost. Cost was impacted by a) acquisition (fabrication methods) and b) installation and rigging time. There were additional requirements that also had to be satisfied: must be weight neutral +/1 pound, fit within the current NLG door opening ...

Aeroacoustic Study on a Simplified Nose Landing Gear
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012Simulation analysis and experiment research are performed on the aeroacoustic noise of a landing gear component in this paper. Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) is used to produce the flow field of the model. The Ffowcs-Williams/Hawkings (FW-H) equation is used to calculate the acoustic field.

Failure analysis of nose landing gear assembly
Engineering Failure Analysis, 2003Abstract This paper analyses the causes of the incident of an F-4 which landed abnormally due to a crack in the nose landing gear hydraulic actuator cylinder. Striations, typical of a fatigue crack, were observed on the fracture surface and a large quantity of corrosive oxide was detected in the initial stage of the crack.

Characterization of Boeing 777 Nose Landing Gear to Better Withstand Rough Landing
International Journal of Engineering Research in Africa, 2023An important role a landing gear plays is that it aids in the landing and takeoff of aircraft. The landing gear must be designed in such a way that it can take these stresses in static and dynamic situations. This is to accommodate both rough and smooth landings that result from various loads acting upon it, such as drag force, vertical load, and side ...

Measuring of a Nose Landing Gear Load during Take-Off and Landing
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2016This article provides information about in-flight measurement of a small sport aircraft. The strain gauges were used as sensors for load monitoring on the nose landing gear structure. To obtain overall forces it was necessary to do the calibration procedure. After the calculation of strain gauge coefficients the equations for calculating of total force,

On the effectiveness of shimmy dampers in stabilizing nose landing gears
Aerospace Science and Technology, 2019Abstract The challenge of nose landing gear shimmy vibrations is largely addressed through adding passive shimmy suppression devices to the gear, known as shimmy dampers. Despite the wide treatment of the shimmy modeling in the literature using various approaches, little is known about shimmy dampers' performance and their influence on the dynamics ...

Cracking in an Aircraft Nose Landing Gear Strut
1993Abstract A crack was detected in one arm of the right-hand horizontal brace of the nose landing gear shock strut from a large military aircraft. The shock strut was manufactured from a 7049 aluminum alloy forging in the shape of a delta. A laboratory investigation was conducted to determine the cause of failure. It was concluded that the
