Single GAF Domain Phytochrome Exhibits a pH‐Dependent Shunt on the Millisecond Timescale
During their light‐induced photocycle, phytochromes can engage in a thermal reversion back to the initially excited state, denoted as a shunt. This study investigates a pH‐dependent shunt transition in the Pfr state of the All2699g1 phytochrome from Nostoc punctiforme using UV/Vis laser flash photolysis and kinetic modeling. The findings suggest a keto‐

Ultrastructural Development of Nostoc muscorum A [PDF]
SUMMARY: The ultrastructural development of Nostoc muscorum A was studied in preparations grown in darkness and sampled during succeeding intervals in the light. The major effect on ultrastructure during light-induced development is a re-organization of the thylakoid lamellae.

ABSTRACT In recent years, biochar has been studied for its range of applications. Recognized by the IPCC as a key Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) strategy, it also stands out as an important tool for reclaiming degraded lands, including vast global areas affected by salinity, such as those in China, India, and Australia.

Commercial Applications of Microalgae [PDF]
The first use of microalgae by humans dates back 2000 years to the Chinese, who used Nostoc to survive during famine. However, microalgal biotechnology only really began to develop in the middle of the last century.

Algal‐extract‐derived ZnO nanoparticles show shape anisotropy and are bio capped by phytochemicals. These green‐synthesized NPs strongly inhibit S. aureus and K. pneumoniae biofilms. Molecular docking suggests stable binding of surface biomolecules to microbial targets, highlighting synergistic antibacterial mechanisms.

A combinatorial strategy of alternative promoter use during differentiation of a heterocystous cyanobacterium [PDF]
Heterocystous cyanobacteria such as Nostoc sp. are filamentous photosynthetic organisms that, in response to nitrogen deficiency, undergo a differentiation process transforming certain, semi-regularly spaced cells into heterocysts, devoted to nitrogen ...

The Curious Case of CysE: Diversity and Distribution of Serine Acetyltransferases in Bacteria
ABSTRACT Serine acetyltransferase (CysE) is a member of the left‐handed β‐helix family of acetyltransferases that catalyze the rate limiting step in de novo cysteine biosynthesis. There are two isoforms of CysE that differ in length, with the shorter isoform lacking approximately 76 amino acids at the N‐terminus of the protein from the serine ...

Origin and evolution of water oxidation before the last common ancestor of the Cyanobacteria [PDF]
Photosystem II, the water oxidizing enzyme, altered the course of evolution by filling the atmosphere with oxygen. Here, we reconstruct the origin and evolution of water oxidation at an unprecedented level of detail by studying the phylogeny of all D1 ...
