Constraint Diagrams: Visualizing Assertions in OO Modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Describes a notation, constraint diagrams, which allows pre/post conditions and invariants to be expressed visually, rather than in the notation of mathematical logic. The notation is explored through a small case study (a library system).

A Diagramatic Analysis of Duality in Supersymmetric Gauge Theories

open access: yes, 1996
We introduce a diagramatic notation for supersymmetric gauge theories. The notation is a tool for exploring duality and helps to present the field content of more complicated models in a simple visual way.

A Quality Improvement Initiative to Standardize Pneumocystis jirovecii Pneumonia Prophylaxis in Pediatric Patients With Solid Tumors

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pediatric patients with extracranial solid tumors (ST) receiving chemotherapy are at an increased risk for Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP). However, evidence guiding prophylaxis practices in this population is limited. A PJP‐related fatality at our institution highlighted inconsistent prescribing approaches and concerns about

L’approche sémiotique de Charles Goodwin : langage visuel, énonciation et diagramme

open access: yesTracés, 2016
This text investigates the connexion between the work of Charles Goodwin and contemporary semiotics. I initially address the relations between verbal, visual, and gestural languages in semiotic terms by exploring Goodwin’s notational system ...

Sickle Cell Disease Is an Inherent Risk for Asthma in a Sibling Comparison Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Sickle cell disease (SCD) and asthma share a complex relationship. Although estimates vary, asthma prevalence in children with SCD is believed to be comparable to or higher than the general population. Determining whether SCD confers an increased risk for asthma remains challenging due to overlapping symptoms and the ...

Semantic and Structural Difficulties with the Unified Modeling Language Use-Case Notation version 1.3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
A case study was undertaken to examine and apply the UML use-case notation version 1.3. This study shows that the notation is open to interpretation and the semantics of the use-case relationships are confusing. The attempt to bolt on the object-oriented

Potential Early Risk Biomarkers for Reduced Forced Expiratory Volume in Children Post‐Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We sought to identify potential early risk biomarkers for lung disease in children post‐allogeneic HCT. Patients with pulmonary function tests 3 months post‐transplant and plasma samples between days 7 and 14 post‐HCT were included. Six of 27 subjects enrolled had reduced forced expiratory volume 1 (FEV1) z scores.
