The use of chloroplast genome sequences to solve phylogenetic incongruences in Polystachya Hook (Orchidaceae Juss) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Current evidence suggests that for more robust estimates of species tree and divergence times, several unlinked genes are required. However, most phylogenetic trees for non-model organisms are based on single sequences or just a few regions ...

Intraespecific variation in drought resistance of Nothofagus antarctica (G. Forst.) Oerst. (Nothofagaceae) [PDF]

open access: yesGayana.

Overview of Phacidiales, including Aotearoamyces gen. nov. on Nothofagus

open access: yesIMA Fungus, 2018
The new genus Aotearoamyces is proposed to accommodate a single species that was repeatedly collected on fallen wood in Nothofagaceae forests of New Zealand and was previously misidentified as a Claussenomyces species.

Method for national mapping spatial extent of southern beech forest using temporal spectral signatures

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Earth Observations and Geoinformation, 2021
Characterisation of native forests is essential for sustainable forest management and for maintenance of ecological and socio-economical functions. In New Zealand, knowledge of forest composition and extent informs predator control measures to protect ...

Mid-Miocene cooling and the extinction of tundra in continental Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A major obstacle in understanding the evolution of Cenozoic climate has been the lack of well dated terrestrial evidence from high-latitude, glaciated regions.

Chromosome number of two Chilean species of Nothofagus (Nothofagaceae) [PDF]

open access: yesGayana.

Coastal erosion reveals a potentially unique Oligocene and possible periglacial sequence at present-day sea level in Port Davey, remote South-West Tasmania [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Cut-back of a sea-cliff at Hannant Inlet in remote South-West Tasmania has exposed Oligocene clays buried under Late Pleistocene “colluvium” from which abundant wood fragments protrude.

Fossils of an endangered, endemic, giant dipterocarp species open a historical portal into Borneo's vanishing rainforests. [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Bot
Abstract Premise Asia's wet tropical forests face a severe biodiversity crisis, but few fossils record their evolutionary history. We recently discovered in situ cuticles on fossil leaves, attributed to the giant rainforest tree Dryobalanops of the iconic Dipterocarpaceae family, from the Plio‐Pleistocene of Brunei Darussalam (northern Borneo ...
