The glacierized Valle Frías in Northern Patagonia is one of the best‐studied valleys in South America and includes varved sediments from Lago Frías. We complement this lacustrine record with a high‐resolution documentation of varve counts and their composition.

Determination of homogeneous edaphoclimatic zones for the secondary forests of Nothofagus dombeyi in central-southern Chile [PDF]
Nothofagus dombeyi grows in a wide variety of sites in Chile (30-47°S), but there is little knowledge about its productive potential. This lack of information hinders decision-making to better guide the production of goods and services from these forests.

We assessed post‐fire germination of Araucaria araucana in the southern Andes and found that seed viability and germination increased markedly (from 65% to 90%) between 1 and 8 years after a severe wildfire. Improved germination at longer time‐since‐fire reflects a recovery of reproductive capacity in this ecologically and culturally significant ...

Land Cover Change Drives River Flow Modifications in Central Chile
This study examines the combined effects of land cover change and ENSO on streamflow dynamics in four coastal catchments of central Chile, using a 45‐year (1979–2023) dataset of remote sensing and hydroclimatic data. Conclusions Native forest loss reduced summer flows and PP–Q relationship; preserved forests enhanced resilience.

Compost legacy effects in active roadside restoration: Medium‐term shifts in plant succession
Roadside restoration experiment established on volcanic tephra following road construction in Andean Patagonia. A single application of municipal (MC) or biosolids (BC) compost rapidly increased plant cover compared with untreated controls (C) but led to distinct, exotic‐dominated plant communities over 6 years.

Secado artificial de madera de coigiie (Nothofagus dombeyi)
A program of artificial drying of coigue wood (Nothofagus dombeyi) 1 inch thick, pretreated by hot water soaking to 70° C during 48 hours was applied in this research. The specific objectives were to apply a drying program based on moisture content, and to evaluate the drying quality.

The evergreen Nothofagus dombeyi and Nothofagus nitida are important members of the temperate Chilean rainforest. They seldom grow together in nature. Nothofagus nitida is more susceptible to excess light and drought than N. dombeyi.

Valdivian Temperate Rainforests in Chile have a global conservation value, but nowadays many correspond to secondary forests following regeneration in agricultural and burned lands, and to high-graded old-growth due to mismanagement, especially at mid to

In the Andes of Chile, two valuable Nothofagus tree species coexist (Nothofagus dombeyi (Mirb.) Oerst. and Nothofagus nervosa (Phil.) Krasser). They could provide an opportunity for mixed plantations because of their ecological differences. In a mixed plantation with a checkerboard design on a good site where the two species naturally coexist, we ...
