Spectroscopy and Orbital Periods of Four Cataclysmic Variable Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present spectroscopy and orbital periods Porb of four relatively little-studied cataclysmic variable stars. The stars and their periods are: AF Cam, Porb = 0.324(1) d (the daily cycle count is slightly ambiguous); V2069 Cyg (= RX J2123.7+4217), 0 ...

Polystyrene Nanoplastics Drive β‐Cell Dedifferentiation Through Dendritic Cell‐Intrinsic MHC‐I‐Dependent Inflammatory Crosstalk

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Polystyrene nanoplastics disrupt pancreatic immune–endocrine homeostasis by promoting MHC‐I‐associated dendritic cell activation and inflammatory crosstalk with β cells. This immune remodeling drives β‐cell dedifferentiation, impairs insulin secretion, and aggravates metabolic dysfunction, revealing a previously unrecognized immunometabolic mechanism ...

Bidirectional Soft Catalysts for Improved Power Performance of Li‐S Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A soft polymer‐metal catalyst is integrated into the binder to create a catalytically active microenvironment that accelerates bidirectional sulfur redox kinetics in lithium‐sulfur batteries. A model polyvinyl alcohol‐Cu catalyst enables high areal capacities at demanding current densities and stable cycling in pouch‐cell prototypes at 0.5 C, achieving

Magnetic Water Cleaning of Estrogens via Tight yet Dynamic Binding to Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Micropollution is one of the big challenges humanity faces with estrogen hormones being emerging pollutants of concern. Here, a supramolecular design strategy is presented that generates a simple nano‐adsorbent material to magnetically remove low‐concentrated estrogens from water.

The orbital and superhump periods of the dwarf nova HS 0417+7445 in Camelopardalis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present the 2005-2010 outburst history of the SU UMa-type dwarf HS 0417+7445, along with a detailed analysis of extensive time-series photometry obtained in March 2008 during the second ecorded superoutburst of the system.

Modular Metamaterials for Adaptable MRI Signal Control: Combining Dipole Array With a New Hexagon‐Based Artificial Dielectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A flexible, hexagonally packed artificial dielectric providing a wide range of effective permittivities (εr ≈ 30–1400) without lumped elements was developed for clinical and ultra‐high‐field MRI. Combined with modular passive‐dipole arrays, the system enables adaptable RF field shaping through electric‐ and magnetic‐dipole tuning.

An Optimized Freeze‐Dry Multimodal Workflow for Sequential Micro‐CT Imaging, Histology, and Molecular Profiling: A Use Case in Human Liver Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Optimized freeze‐drying and eosin staining deliver artifact‐free micro‐CT images of liver tissue at near‐histological detail, then hand the same specimen back for sectioning, staining, and sequencing. Fibrotic volume distinguishes normal liver from cirrhosis, while preserved RNA reveals inflammatory gene upregulation—one biopsy, three dimensions, and a

The component masses of the cataclysmic variable V347 Puppis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present time-resolved spectroscopy and photometry of the double-lined eclipsing cataclysmic variable V347 Pup (=LB 1800). There is evidence of irradiation on the inner hemisphere of the secondary star, which we correct for using a model to give a ...

Giant Direct Magnetoelectric Effect in Nanocomposite CoFe2O4:PVDF‐TrFE Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel three‐step grow‐etch‐fill fabrication approach creates structured cobalt ferrite/ferroelectric polymer nanocomposites with high interfacial areas. Driven by efficient strain‐mediated coupling, this crystalline system achieves a giant room‐temperature magnetoelectric coefficient nearly two orders of magnitude higher than other CFO/PVDF‐TrFE thin
