Differential response of RTGUTGC and RTGILL‐W1 rainbow trout epithelial cell lines to viral stimulation

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 46, Issue 4, Page 433-443, April 2023., 2023
Abstract Mucosal surfaces constitute the main route of entry of pathogens into the host. In fish, these mucosal tissues include, among others, the gastrointestinal tract, the gills and the skin. However, knowledge about the mechanisms of regulation of immunity in these tissues is still scarce, being essential to generate a solid base that allows the ...

Phylogenetic analysis and genotyping of Iranian infectious haematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) based on the glycoprotein gene

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 8, Issue 6, Page 2411-2417, November 2022., 2022
Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the detected strains (Jahad‐UT1 and Jahad‐UT2 isolates) are closely related (97.23%‐100%) to European isolates within genogroup ‘E’. This finding indicates that Jahad‐UT1 and Jahad‐UT2 isolates have been widely transferred to Iran from European countries.

Temperature effects on teleost immunity in the light of climate change

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 780-796, October 2022., 2022
Abstract Temperature is an important environmental modulator of teleost immune activity. Susceptibility of teleosts to temperature variation depends on the species‐specific adaptive temperature range, and the activity of the teleost immune system is generally temperature‐dependent.

Effect of rearing density on nervous necrosis virus infection in Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 44, Issue 12, Page 2003-2012, December 2021., 2021
Abstract Intensive fish farming at high densities results in a wide range of adverse consequences on fish welfare, including pathogen spreading, stress and increased mortality rates. In this work, we have assessed whether the survival of Senegalese sole infected with the nervous necrosis virus (NNV), a pathogen responsible for severe disease outbreaks,

Immunity to Fish Rhabdoviruses

open access: yesViruses, 2012
Members of the family Rhabdoviridae are single-stranded RNA viruses and globally important pathogens of wild and cultured fish and thus relatively well studied in their respective hosts or other model systems.

Kinetics of CD4‐1+ lymphocytes in brown trout after exposure to viral haemorrhagic septicaemia virus

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 44, Issue 10, Page 1553-1562, October 2021., 2021
Abstract T‐helper cells express CD4 as a co‐receptor that binds to major histocompatibility complex class II to synchronize the immune response against upcoming threats via mediating several cytokines. We have previously reported the presence of CD4 homologues in brown trout.

Temperature Variation and Host Immunity Regulate Viral Persistence in a Salmonid Host

open access: yesPathogens, 2021
Environmental variation has important effects on host–pathogen interactions, affecting large-scale ecological processes such as the severity and frequency of epidemics.

Population genetic analyses unveiled genetic stratification and differential natural selection signatures across the G-gene of viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2022
Introduction: Viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV) is the most lethal pathogen in aquaculture, infecting more than 140 fish species in marine, estuarine, and freshwater environments.

Impact of global warming on host/pathogen interactions in a Novirhabdovirus / Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) model

open access: yes
International audienceContext :The development of aquaculture, the world's fastest-growing agricultural sector, faces several challenges such as global warming, environmental pollution and the emergence of pathogens; impacting the health and welfare of ...

Host range, host specificity and hypothesized host shift events among viruses of lower vertebrates

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2011
The successful replication of a viral agent in a host is a complex process that often leads to a species specificity of the virus and can make interspecies transmission difficult.
