Block copolymer modified novolac epoxy resin

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, 2003
AbstractThe phase behavior of uncured and cured mixtures containing stoichiometric amounts of Epon164 novolac epoxy resin and 4,4′‐methylenedianiline combined with a nearly symmetric poly(methyl acrylate‐co‐glycidyl methacrylate‐b‐polyisoprene) diblock copolymer was investigated with small‐angle X‐ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy.

Morphology transition of bismaleimide-modified novolac resin

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2006
AbstractThe bismaleimide (BMI)‐modified novolac resin was synthesized by allylation of the novolac resin and its “Ene” reaction with BMI. The reactions were monitored by Fourier transform infrared analysis (FTIR). The morphology of the BMI‐modified novolac resin changed with degree of allylation (i.e., the amount of BMI used).

The structure and viscoelasticity of novolac resins

Polymer Journal, 2014
In this work, we discuss the dynamic viscoelasticity of three novolac resins with different molar masses and methylene linkage patterns (para–para′, ortho–ortho′ and ortho–para′ methylene linkages) to clarify the relationship between the structure and viscoelastic properties of novolac resins.

Blends of Epoxy and Epoxidized Novolac Resins

Journal of Elastomers & Plastics, 2005
The effect of the addition of two types of epoxidized novolac resins separately to cold-set bisphenol-A-based epoxy resin has been investigated in this study. Bisphenol A epoxy resins containing 2.5-20 wt% of epoxy novolac are cured in the presence of a polyamide hardener and tested for thermal and mechanical properties, hardness, water absorption, etc.

Novolac epoxy resins and positron annihilation

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1993
AbstractFour kinds of epoxy resins: cresol novolac, tris‐hydroxyphenylmethane, tetramethylbiphenol, and bisphenol A, were cured with phenol novolac epoxy resins. Characteristics of these epoxy compounds were studied by the positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) technique.

Strategic synthesis of model novolac resins

Tetrahedron Letters, 1994
Abstract Model novolac resins which contain the maximum number of free ortho positions for reaction with the curing agent hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) have been prepared. The key transformation was the ion assisted ortho -specific phenol-formaldehyde oligomerization of suitably protected precursors.

Degradation kinetics of functionalized novolac resins

Polymer Degradation and Stability, 2010
Abstract We report the relationships between the degradation behaviors (i.e. the degradation kinetics, degradation activation energy, weight loss conversion, and char formation) and the structure features in three modified novolac resins bearing different curable functional groups and aromatic units i.e. Carbonyl phenyl azo novolac resin (CPAN), 4-(4-

Effect of an epoxidized novolac resin anhydride structure on the properties of resin

Polymer Engineering & Science, 1973
AbstractThe properties of an epoxidized novolac resin cured with two homologous series of substituted succinic anhydrides (alkenyl and alkyl) have been determined and the effects of anhydride structure on properties have been evaluated. Substituted succinic anhydrides yield cured resins with lower strengths, lower heat distortion temperatures, and ...
