Development of a Renewable Hybrid Resin System by Blending Isocyanate with Novolac Phenolic Resins

Forest Products Journal, 2020
Abstract The objective of this study was to develop a performance-competitive bio-based hybrid resin system composed of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) resin and novolac phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin for engineered wood panel manufacturing. A novolac PF resin and a bio-oil–modified PF resin were blended with MDI at weight ratios of PF to

Structure and property relationships of fractionated novolac resins

SPIE Proceedings, 1997
In previous paper', we described the performance of near-monodisperse novolak resins obtained through supercritical fluid extraction. The low molecular weight partner was found to be the key element for high contrast and high resolution of the reconstructed tandem resists.

The use of liquid chromatography for the characterization of novolac resins

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1993
AbstractNovolac resins made by condensation of phenol or p‐cresol with formaldehyde in various mole ratios were analyzed by reversed‐phase high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Number‐average molecular weights (Mn) of phenol novolacs were determined by GPC and vapor‐phase osmometry (VPO) and compared.

Hydrogen bonding in the novolac type phenolic resin blended with phenoxy resin

Polymer, 1997
Abstract The hydrogen bond formation between novolac type phenolic resin (phenolic) and polyhydroxyl ether of bisphenol A (Phenoxy resin) were verified by infra-red (i.r.), gel permeation chromatography (g.p.c.) and nuclear magnetic resonance (n.m.r.). The i.r. spectrum of the ‘free’ hydroxyl group of the blend shows a maximum absorption area with 25

Preparation and performances of bisphthalonitrile resin and novolac cyanate ester resin blends

Polymer Bulletin, 2019
Bisphthalonitrile (BPh) resin was modified by diallyl bisphenol A/bismaleimide resin prepolymer (DP/BMI). Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize the curing acceleration of modified bisphthalonitrile (MBPh) resin.

Mechanism Studies on Water Sorption and Permeation in Epoxy Resin by Impedance Spectroscopy. II. Cure Kinetics of O-Cresol Novolac Resin with Esterfied Phenol Novolac Resin

Journal of Macromolecular Science, Part A, 1997
Abstract To study the effect of water affinity of the cured epoxy resin on water sorption and permeation in the cured epoxy resin, a novel hardener (esterfied phenol novolac was synthesized and used for obtaining the cured product without free hydroxyl group.

The chemistry of novolac resins — V. Reactions of benzoxazine intermediates

Polymer, 1998
Abstract As part of our study on the curing reactions between novolac resins and hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA), a model benzoxazine, 3-(3,5-dimethyl-2-hydroxybenzyl)-6,8-dimethyl-3,4-dihydro-(2H)-1,3-benzoxazine, was heated under carefully controlled conditions, and the structural changes were studied by 13 C and 15 N n.m.r. spectroscopy.
