Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2006AbstractThe bismaleimide (BMI)‐modified novolac resin was synthesized by allylation of the novolac resin and its “Ene” reaction with BMI. The reactions were monitored by Fourier transform infrared analysis (FTIR). The morphology of the BMI‐modified novolac resin changed with degree of allylation (i.e., the amount of BMI used).

Blends of Epoxy and Epoxidized Novolac Resins
Journal of Elastomers & Plastics, 2005The effect of the addition of two types of epoxidized novolac resins separately to cold-set bisphenol-A-based epoxy resin has been investigated in this study. Bisphenol A epoxy resins containing 2.5-20 wt% of epoxy novolac are cured in the presence of a polyamide hardener and tested for thermal and mechanical properties, hardness, water absorption, etc.
