Air-atomizing splash-cone fuel nozzle reduces pollutant emissions from turbojet engines [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
Advantages of fuel nozzle over conventional pressure-atomizing fuel nozzles: simplicity of construction, ability to distribute fuel-air mixture uniformly across full height of combustor without using auxiliary air supply, reliability when using ...

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Effects of vibrational nonequilibrium on the inviscid design of an axisymmetric nozzle for hypersonic flow [PDF]

open access: yes
An axisymmetric, hypersonic nozzle for arc-heated air is described. The method of characteristics is used to compute an inviscid nozzle contour in which vibrational nonequilibrium is approximated by the sudden-freeze technique.

Scanning nozzle plating system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
A plating system is described in which a substrate to be plated is supported on a stationary platform. A nozzle assembly with a small nozzle is supplied with a plating solution under high pressure, so that a constant-flow stream of solution is directed ...

Biocompatible but Antibacterial Mechanism of Graphene Oxide for Sustainable Antibiotics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene oxide (GO) exhibits selective antibacterial activity through specific interactions between its oxygen functional groups and bacterial membrane phospholipid POPG, causing membrane destabilization while maintaining biocompatibility. Model membrane studies and infected wound models in mice and pigs demonstrate effective bacterial suppression and ...

Aerodynamic performance of flared fan nozzles used as inlets [PDF]

open access: yes
Tests were conducted in a low speed wind tunnel to determine the aerodynamic performance of several flared fan nozzles. Each of the flared nozzles was a downstream-facing inlet to a model fan that was used to simulate a variable pitch fan during reverse ...

Entrainment characteristics of unsteady subsonic jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The effectiveness of jet unsteadiness in enhancing flow entrainment was assessed. It was conducted that entrainment depends on the type and amount of jet unsteadiness.

Assembly of Cell‐Seeded 3D Printed Hydrogel Modules with Perfusable Channel Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Macroscale assembly was utilized to prepare perfusable tissue constructs from individually 3D printed hydrogel modules with embedded branched channel networks and port arrays for cell seeding. Novel multi‐material bioreactors were fabricated to facilitate the gluing of individual modules and the perfusion culture of assembled modular constructs seeded ...

Scramjet nozzle design and analysis as applied to a highly integrated hypersonic research airplane [PDF]

open access: yes
Engine-nozzle airframe integration at hypersonic speeds was conducted by using a high-speed research aircraft concept as a focus. Recently developed techniques for analysis of scramjet-nozzle exhaust flows provide a realistic analysis of complex forces ...

Tracing Sub‐Monolayer Contamination on Wafer‐Scale 2D Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sub‐monolayer adventitious carbon contamination limits the performance and reproducibility of 2D material‐based devices. This study demonstrates scanning helium microscopy (SHeM) as a non‐destructive, ultra‐sensitive tool for wafer‐scale imaging of surface cleanliness.
