Resetting the neurohormonal balance in heart failure (HF). the relevance of the natriuretic peptide (NP) system to the clinical management of patients with HF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The natriuretic peptide (NP) system, which includes atrial natriuretic peptide, B-type natriuretic peptide, and C-type natriuretic peptide, has an important role in cardiovascular homeostasis, promoting a number of physiological effects including ...

Lactate is an energy substrate for rodent cortical neurons and enhances their firing activity

open access: yeseLife, 2021
Glucose is the mandatory fuel for the brain, yet the relative contribution of glucose and lactate for neuronal energy metabolism is unclear. We found that increased lactate, but not glucose concentration, enhances the spiking activity of neurons of the ...

A Quantum Characterization Of NP [PDF]

open access: yescomputational complexity, 2011
In this article we introduce a new complexity class called PQMA_log(2). Informally, this is the class of languages for which membership has a logarithmic-size quantum proof with perfect completeness and soundness which is polynomially close to 1 in a context where the verifier is provided a proof with two unentangled parts. We then show that PQMA_log(2)

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Analyzing the Open/Deep Web to Better Understand the New/Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS) Scenarios: Suggestions from CASSANDRA and NPS.Finder Research Projects

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2020
New/novel psychoactive substances (NPS) are defined as new narcotic/psychotropic drugs which are not controlled by the United Nations’ 1961 Narcotic Drugs/1971 Psychotropic Substances conventions, but which may pose a public health threat [...]

Development of human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 by yeast display

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 are generated by yeast display‐guided selection. These antibodies bind to soluble and cell‐surface forms of TARM1. Also, these antibodies exhibit agonistic activity in the NFAT‐GFP reporter assay, indicating that TARM1 signaling can be functionally modulated by antibodies and suggesting TARM1 as a potential ...

Impact of BaTiO$_3$ nanoparticles on phase transitions and dynamics in nematic liquid crystal - temperature and pressure studies

open access: yes, 2017
Broadband dielectric spectroscopy (BDS) of pure 5OCB and nanocolloids consisting of 5OCB and paraelectric or ferroelectric BaTiO${_3}$ nanoparticles (NPs) was performed on varying pressure or temperature.

Zinc Oxide NPs as Solar Photo-Catalysis for Water Disinfection

open access: yesEurasian Journal of Science and Engineering, 2022
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures have been revealed to be a photocatalytic prospect owing to the truth that they are cost-effective. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) and ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) are commonly utilized in sunscreens as inorganic physical sun blockers.
