NSM and the meaning of color words
Theoretical Linguistics, 2003Abstract Uwe Durst (D) is to be commended for a clear exposition of the Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) theory of Anna Wierzbicka (W) and her associates. In addition to laying out clearly the assumptions of the NSM theory, D states that The …NSM model… has turned out to be a most useful theoretical and methodological ...

NSM: Theoretical, methodological and applicational problems
Theoretical Linguistics, 2003Abstract 0. Introduction Durst's paper is a well-written and clear survey of the Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) model. However, it strikes us as somewhat over-enthusiastic and slightly simplistic: alternative positions and voices are not present, there is often no deep argumentation ...

Improvement of Serviceability by Strengthening with Prestressed NSM
IABSE Reports, 2010<p>Carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP) are often used for strengthening. In most applications the CFRP-reinforcements are externally bonded (EBR) to the structure. An improvement can be achieved by near surface mounted CFRP (NSM), due to the better bond behaviour.

Hierarchical Traces for Reduced NSM Memory Requirements
2010This paper presents work on using hierarchical long term memory to reduce the memory requirements of nearest sequence memory (NSM) learning, a previously published, instance-based reinforcement learning algorithm. A hierarchical memory representation reduces the memory requirements by allowing traces to share common sub-sequences.

NSM: A Security Mechanism for Object-Based Storage System
2009 WRI World Congress on Computer Science and Information Engineering, 2009SOBSS is architecture of OBSS (Object-Based Storage System) proposed from time, data trans-mission and security aspects by which performance of OBSS can be promoted effectively. In this paper, a security mechanism for OBSS called as NSM is proposed.

NSM: a distributed storage architecture for data-intensive applications
20th IEEE/11th NASA Goddard Conference on Mass Storage Systems and Technologies, 2003. (MSST 2003). Proceedings., 2003Several solutions have been developed to provide data-intensive applications with the highest possible data rates. Such solutions tried to utilize the available network resources through parallel I/O and TCP/IP tuning in order to achieve a better data throughput.

NSM without the Strong Lexicalization Hypothesis
Theoretical Linguistics, 2003Abstract I would like to begin by briefly reviewing the assumptions and hypotheses the NSM approach is based on. The goal of this exercise is to understand how these are interrelated, what hinges on every one of them, and what consequences arise from discarding an assumption or disproving a hypothesis.

NSM and cognitive-functional models of grammar
Theoretical Linguistics, 2003Abstract The Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) approach articulated by Uwe Durst is a componential theory of meaning, and it inherits many of the strengths of such theories. This is especially evident when we compare NSM with componential models that share its view of linguistic cognition as a reflex of the human meaning-making ...

NSM-Tree: Efficient Indexing on Top of NoSQL Databases
2017During the last years, there is a huge proliferation in the usage of location-based services (LBSs), mostly through a multitude of mobile devices (GPS, smartphones, mapping devices, etc.). The volume of the data derived by such services, grows exponentially and conventional databases tend to be ineffective in storing and indexing them efficiently ...
