Case in NSM

open access: yes, 2012
AbstractThe natural semantic metalanguage (NSM) theory of language assumes, with Franz Boas, that the grammatical categories of a language represent a given speech community's interpretation and classification of experience. As Boas put it, ‘Since the total range of personal experience which language serves to express is infinitely varied, and its ...

Reconciling NSM and Formal Semantics

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Linguistics, 2015
Formal semantics and Natural Semantic Metalanguage are widely held to be radically incompatible as ways to study meaning in naural language. Here I will show that they can to some extent be reconciled. In particular, for linguists working with NSM, formal semantics can be viewed as providing mathematical accounts of some of the same phenomena that NSM ...

Investigation of the effect of using NSM method in repairing cracked concrete beams under static torsional loading [PDF]

open access: yesمهندسی و مدیریت ساخت, 2020
Most concrete cracks are due to incorrect designs and incorrect execution methods. One of the designs that should be done for concrete parts is the design for twisting. The amount of torsion is significant in edge beams or beams that are connected to the

The rising tide: Trends in induction of labor at term over a 5‐year period at a single centre

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, Volume 169, Issue 1, Page 383-390, April 2025.
Abstract Objective Induction of labor (IOL) is a controversial topic in contemporary obstetric practice, with some suggesting that the increase in elective induction (eIOL) as a potential contributor to increasing cesarean delivery (CD) rates. The objectives of this single‐center study were to examine the rates of IOL, trends in indications for IOL ...

Prenatal exposure to antihypertensive medication: A systematic review of neurodevelopmental and educational outcomes

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
This systematic review investigated the association of prenatal exposure to antihypertensive medication with longer‐term poor neurodevelopmental outcomes by evaluating the findings from existing literature. We undertook a systematic review of previous studies looking specifically at neurodevelopmental outcomes in children.

Climatology of Tropical Cyclones Approaching Tanzania and Their Impacts on Rainfall in East Africa

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Tropical cyclones (TCs) that approach Tanzania bring heavy rainfall over northern Mozambique, Tanzania, and south‐central Kenya, but the occurrence of these TCs reduces precipitation over southern African countries. Easterly steering winds and the Mascarene High are key features directing TCs westward.
